From the last World Fantasy Con report:

"As was always our intention, as soon as the Book Club and Kaffeeklatsche sessions were all finished, we started refunding the £5.00 fees of everybody who actually turned up for them."

You know how you can tell when something actually always was the intention? When it's stated from the beginning.

Also, then it's not a "fee." It's a "deposit."

(Don't even get me started on the victim-blaminess in their last report addressed at one of the people who was harassed at the con.)

Also note that people who paid cash up front at the convention didn't get refunds.

Given that they also make a big deal of the fact that they didn't charge 75 quid to the people who needed replacement badges, my sense is they expected people to be impressed with them for the effectiveness of their bullshit infantilizing strategy? "Oh we only said we'd charge you so you wouldn't lose your badge / quit on a kaffeklatsch." Amazing.
