My day started with being cc'd on a grumpy email sent to people way up the food chain from me, which is about par for the last three weeks. That's great for a stress eater with diabetes, let me tell you. I'm pretty sure I'm back to where I was in 2009 now. That's a subject for another post, though.

Anyway, have some links:

1. Report: Everyone You’ve Ever Had A Crush On Secretly Had A Crush On You, They Still Do, And They’re Waiting For You. I've always suspected as much.

2. Don’t Let Harlan Ellison Hear This (by [livejournal.com profile] nihilistic_kid) is well worth reading.

3. Yes, a baby was born in a car trapped by ice in Atlanta. Worth noting for the partents: According to the SSA, the girl's name "Icy" was a top-1000 name as recently as 1907 (and made the top 600 in 1899).

4. The age of the iPod is over. I'll still be one of the hobbyists. I like my iPod, and still prefer to have a ton of music and podcasts stored locally. I also like not spending a fortune every month on cell phones.

5. Finally, it looks like LJ's remaining US roots are shriveling up. Frankly, as long as the software works, I'm not sure this is a huge story; the whole point of the cloud is that it's the cloud. And with the exception of DW (which is, not surprisingly, founded on the same early code), I've seen no other services online that offer a tenth of the functionality.

Your link #5 is from October 2012. Is that the link you meant to include?

2. Did you see the followup? (http://nihilistic-kid.livejournal.com/1870902.html?style=mine)

What followup? Can you provide a link?

.... I need a "not sure if joking" icon.

(If not joking: Uh, yeah. The words "Did you see the followup" *are* a link. Are they not displaying like a link to you? If joking.... uh, what's the joke?)

Nothing on this journal displays as a link. The link color is indistinguishable from the regular text color and the links aren't underlined either.

Ah! That would explain it. I've got an addon that appends "?style=mine" to all livejournal URLs to avoid dealing with what other people think are good colours and layouts, so it looked fine to me.

I read this journal from my very vanilla and unadorned friends page, so the links in [livejournal.com profile] yendi's original posts look fine to me. But once I get to this comment page, I can't find the links either.

Yeah, what Ron said. I honestly had no idea that the style yendi uses makes it so hard to see links, because on my friends page they show up friendly and blue. :)

There's a setting in LJ settings where you can turn on "view other pages in my style" somewhere. I have it on.

But yeah, that's the pain of some styles.

Yup, I have that turned on too. Makes LJ a lot more uniform and pleasing to my eyes.

I'd be less annoyed by the death of the iPod if the iPhone wasn't jerking around with their Music app to make it less functional in comparison.

I now have two iPod Minis that I use for playing music around the house because of that.

I'd have an iPhone if I could afford it. Since I can't, I still have my 3rd gen iPod Touch.

The iPod thing is interesting to me. Andy keeps the music he wants on his phone, and I have a smartphone but I don't keep music on it. I love my iPod (classic, though I got it a year ago). I love that I don't have to worry about the battery life and when we still drove regularly, I could plug it in inside the glove box and leave it there. I need my phone too much, and the battery already doesn't last as long as I'd like. Why would I want to use it up faster, listening to music? Yes, it's an extra thing to carry, but it has ALL my music. Andy's phone doesn't have the space for that. Neither does mine.

I guess I'll try to take good care of it. Hopefully batteries and streaming services will be different by the point that I need to make a change.
