Need to close tabs. Here's nine links to end the year.

1. The bile-and-piss fueled rantings of John C. Wright generally don't need a takedown, since they tend to reside on the opposite side of the planet from logic, but when he lost his shit over the end of Korra, Jim Hines wrote a great response (spoilers for Korra, of course).

2. For those following Serial, The Intercept is conducting an interview with Jay. I consider this pretty essential as supplemental material. I'd no more take anything he says here as gospel than with any of the folks interviewed on the 'cast (especially with regards to what happened in '99), but there's no question that his final point in part 2 - "Have you read the subReddit about this case and about me?. . . Everything’s changed" is dead on. Equally worth reading is Rabia Chaudry's response.

3. In case you weren't skeptical enough about college athletics, here's an article about one man who helped hundreds of athletes cheat their way through school. The NCAA remains a joke.

4. The last Oglaf of the year cracked me up multiple times (NSFW).

5. I'm working on a "favorite books" post for tomorrow, and that list will certainly have Thrown on it once I finish it tonight. So naturally, this piece on female MMA fighters is one I found incredibly compelling.

6. Grand Theft Auto Will Never Change—But We Can. One of the best pieces I've read on GTA in recent memory.

7. Laurie Penny's post On Nerd Entitlement has been spread so far and wide that I can't imagine anyone hasn't seen it, but it's still vital reading, and one of the most empathy-filled posts on the topic I've read. This comic is also worth looking at.

8. Seven myths about cast iron pans. Useful stuff.

9. And finally, if you're an Android user, Amazon's got a bunch of free apps for New Years that are worth grabbing. A few games worth grabbing are Thomas Was Alone, Kingdom Rush Frontiers (which is also free on the iOS before tomorrow, thanks to IGN), Lyne, République, and Fruit Ninja.
