Back on the KOL wagon
Dec. 2nd, 2015 01:05 pmSo I started playing Kingdom of Loathing again about a month ago after taking a couple of years off. I've done a string of Ed the Undying Hardcore runs, which are great because they've allowed me to see some of the new content, but not get overwhelmed by all the changes to the core classes and other stuff.
Of course, now that I've finished my latest run, I'm hanging out in Aftercore for the month of December to enjoy Crimbo, which is also giving me a chance to see other new stuff. I've got the hang of the new Spookyraven Manor now, I've seen the changes to the Nemesis quest, White Castle, Trick or Treating, the Black Forest, etc. I also snagged the November Item of the Month so I'm having fun exploring Vykea. My clan is largely barren, but since we were never hugely active, that's okay (although I do miss the occasional Dungeon run).
Basically, I'm happy the game's still around, and still releasing tons of new content. I always love Crimbo, and I'll see if I'm still hooked come January. Anyone else still playing?
Oh, and for other folks who have been away for a while, the various Avatar challenge paths -- Ed the Undying, Zombie Master, and the Avatars of Boris, Jarlsberg, and Sneaky Pete -- are great ways to ease yourself back in, as you only have access to totally new skills in a limited group, so you don't have any analysis paralysis while dealing with dozens of perms skills that might have changed over the years.

Date: 2015-12-02 07:39 pm (UTC)I know they rolled out the challenge paths and high-level aftercore stuff (like The Sea) to keep the game from getting "stale" for long-time players, but for relative newbs like me it makes it even more difficult to get through both the old and the new content. I didn't even have a chance to do some of the underwater stuff before they changed it.
