(A surprising number of the Friday Deals are still active, including the $2.99 Marvel Graphic Novels, cheap Pratchett Kindle editions, cheap AmazonBasics kitchen goods, Roku-enabled TV, Ever After High toys, and the classical MP3s. Other active deals from previous days include the $5 MP3 Albums and the under-$5 Blu-Rays.

I swear to god, just two days ago, my Mom was raving about the Echo Dot she bought on Black Friday (yes, my 80-year-old mom is a gadget person -- we had a VCR back in something like 1979), and she said, "I bet Amazon puts them on sale again next Monday." Close enough, as it's Sunday and it's 20% off, down to $39.99.

Also on sale (not surprisingly) is the full Amazon Echo, down to $139.99 (22% off), and the Amazon Tap for $89.99 (31% off). The Echo has a full speaker/subwoofer setup (unlike the Dot speaker, which isn't really good for music), while the Tap has a great speaker, but requires you to physically activate it to use Alexa (which is the real selling point of any of these devices).

In other Amazon devices that make good holiday gifts, the Kindle Paperwhite is $99.99 (17% off), and is a really solid e-reader.

And the basic 8GB Amazon Fire Android Tablet is $39.99 (20% off). It's not as nice as the higher-end tablets, but especially if you've got a kid who needs a solid tablet, it's a good investment. The 16GB version of this is also $10 off (down to $59.99), as is the Fire Kids Edition Tablet (down to $89.99), which includes both a solid case and a two-year replacement warranty that covers any damage (including kids throwing it at the wall, etc).

And as far as I know, those aren't daily deals (although I'm guessing they'll only last a few days, until the pre-$Winterholiday rush ends).

One actual daily deal is on Kindle Sports Books, with assorted biographies (Michael Jordan), autobiographies (Stuart Scott, Phil Jackson, Gaby Douglas), fitness guides (80/20 Running, The Badass Body Diet), and science books (The Sports Gene, 10% Human) on sale for anywhere from $.99-$2.99.

Another daily deal offers the assorted 16 oz Contigo AUTOSEAL West Loop Vacuum Insulated Stainless Steel Travel Mugs with Easy-Clean Lid for anywhere from $10.49, all down from their regular $19.99 price (there are also some 20 oz mugs on the page, down to $12.99 from $24.99).

And a final daily deal that appeals to the gadget-lover in me (I'm my mother's son) is the DYMO LabelWriter 4XL Thermal Label Printer for $139.99 (43% off). I have literally no realistic use for one of these, but still want one.

In movies, to celebrate the season, Krampus on Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital is $13 (43% off).

In video games, the Nintendo DS version of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes is $12.99 (39% off), while LEGO Lord of the Rings for the DS is $5.79 (not on sale, technically, but not likely to ever get cheaper). And in more recent games, Dishonored 2 for the PS4 is $39.99 (33% off).

In kitchen goods, the Oye Stainless Steel Garlic Press is $12.95 (50% off). Whether you want to risk Alton Brown's wrath on a unitasker is up to you, but I'm a fan of garlic-mincing tools (we have a different one that we like).

The KRUPS GX5000 Professional Electric Coffee Burr Grinder is $33.59 (51% off and about $15 off other sellers after shipping). If our blade grinder ever dies, a burr grinder's the next one I'd go for.

And finally, for folks looking for more cheap classical MP3s, Amazon's got a TON of cheap classical MP3 albums that range from $.99-$2.99, with many of them having over 100 songs. My personal favorite theme is 100 Must-Have Horror Classics, a $.99 album with selections from Faust, Salome, and The Planets, among others.

I have got both generations of dot, and the echo. The dot is better in almost every use case. Yes, the speaker in the echo is better, but for anything other than background music, you are almost certainly still going to want a better speaker. The echo speaker is a bit better than the built in speaker in a decent mobile phone, but only a bit, and the distortion is bad at higher volume levels. For the same money as an echo you could get a dot and a GOOD external speaker to plug into it, if you want to play music through it.

They are all really handy devices, the full echo just is not anywhere worth the premium over the echo dot.
