So, the last four days have been "vacation."

Ha.

Although I've been avoiding work stress, keeping Elayna entertained for four days is not an easy task.

Tuesday, we took it easy at home. It was raining during the day, so we played board games, watched Atlantis (my first time -- damned fine flick, anachronisms be damned), and basically had fun. I managed to not go insane, got her to karate that evening, and Elayna later watched Gilmore Girls with us, laughing even though she couldn't have gotten 50% of the jokes.

Wednesday was our big outing day -- after she watched Atlantis again (while the new dining room set arrived), plus an episode of Futurama (which she laughed at, even though she couldn't have gotten more than 10% of the jokes), we went to Supercuts, where there was a hella long wait -- five people with only one "stylist" (aside -- I refuse to consider the SuperCuts folks real hair stylists. But "cutter" just doesn't have the right ring).

Eventually, we got to have her bangs trimmed. This was followed by Burger King, where I ate the BK Veggie Burger -- I'm not kidding! It's the only veggie item on their menu (since BK, unlike all other fast food places, will not serve salads). Wasn't bad, once the mayo was scraped off. Elayna got the Diego Ice Age toy, and got to play in the little playground they have set up there. This was followed by a trip to the pet store, and by shopping (which I posted about on Wednesday).

Thursday was more Atlantis (what a shock), followed by us getting ready for the trip to the doctor. We decided that since we'd have to take two buses, we'd eat at Whole Foods to break up the trip (okay, I decided this). Since she didn't like any of the specials they had, we ordered her a turkey sandwich with tomatoes. Elayna had never seen a real deli-style sandwich before, and was amazed that there was a sandwich bigger than her mouth. She still ate half of it (along with some Nantucket Nectar), and we saved the other half for later.

We then waited for the #6 bus, and Elayna somehow managed to injure herself by scraping her ankle against a stone column. Twenty minutes later, when she looked at the scrape, it started hurting, so I had to calm her down just as the bus came. When we got off, she was using an exaggerated limp, but we cured it by stopping at Cold Stone Creamery (we were way early), where she had both a lemon and a raspberry sorbet. I had coffee yogurt with graham crackers and Heath bars mixed in (for those who don't know what Cold Stone does, check out http://www.coldstonecreamery.com/core/product_info.asp -- and they've got two stores opening up in Ft. Lauderdale!). It was yummy. We then went to [livejournal.com profile] shadesong's office, and then to the doctor.

We actually got past the registration desk and through the nurse's exam by 2:20 (the appointment was at 2:15), so we figured we'd be out in no time. So we waited in the examination room. And waited. And waited. And waited. And asked the nurse when we'd see the doctor, and were assured we'd see her soon. At about 3:15, the doctor walks in, fails to pronounce Elayna name correctly (and not in a good way -- she omits the L), and then examines her, all the while treating her like she's a three-year old, acting all impressed when Elayna knows her last name, etc. Her verdict is that Elayna has no allergies, but she gave us a sample medicine to try, and got us out of there in about ten minutes. We're definitely going to try to see the other doc in the office next time.

Afterwards, we went back to 'song's office, where Elayna finished the turkey sandwich, and we then left. On both the walk back (this was at the 1525 Clifton building of the Emory clinic), and the walk to the car, I carried Elayna most of the way (as her walking speed is slower than dirt, and both 'song and I are fast walkers), so my back is in copious amounts of pain.

Friday, we headed to campus early, got 'song's taxes mailed, went to my office so Elayna could see it (and meet a few people), hit the Carlos museum briefly (saw mummies and Kente stuff), hit the Carlos bookstore sale (the real reason I was there) then got motherfucking soaked when we went to Panera to get lunch to bring back to 'song's office. The entire area was borderline flooded -- they just have terrible drainage down there. And on the way back, with a heavy bag in hand and Elayna walking at her usual pace, even an umbrella couldn't help. I was not in a happy mood by the end of the walk. When we got to 'song's office, it turned out they they had fucked up Elayna's sandwich and put jelly on it (she'd just wanted peanut butter). I was apoplectic, and Elayna wasn't happy either. Fortunately, there was a vending machine near 'song's department, so she was able to not starve.

After lunch (I ate my portabella and mozzerella sandwich and Elayna's PB&J), we went back home (wasn't raining as badly), I tossed her jeans in the drier, she watched Powerpuff girls, and an hour later, another GS mom came by to pick her up. Our sweetie is now camping (see 'song's journal for more on this). And I went four days without blowing up at Elayna, or having her pitch a tantrum or other kind of fit! Woohoo!
