Horror tidbits

Heh. Was just talking to shadesong this morning about various horror franchises, and I mentioned the Sleepaway Camp movies (which she hasn't seen). Turns out the DVD box set is coming out soon -- http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00006ADDG/ref=cm_wl_ups/002-3788713-7217608

Also, they bumped the release of the next Halloween movie to July 12 (Mike, you paying attention). It's got Busta Rhymes and Stiffler in it. The plot is pretty much a swipe of The House on Haunted Hill, but it looks fun. Doubt it'll be as good as Jason X, though.

I thorougly enjoyed it. And I simply said that the Halloween flick won't be as good. Jason X was fun, if not traditionally good. Trash, but fun (of course, I've been a fan of the entire series for years). Only one person died stupidly (i.e., did a classic horror movie move), and the humor was fun. And Lisa Ryder so rocks my world.

Heh heh. I was kidding, mostly. I don't care much for the slasher type of horror film; if I'm going to watch a horror film it's usually a suspense horror film a la Hitchcock's The Birds. I don't deal well with slasher films because they rely a great deal on "jump out and scare the audience" type of suspense, which I can't handle very well because I'm so high-strung. Force me to watch a film like "Friday the 13th" and you'll either be dislodging me from the ceiling or prying my fingers out of the armchair rests where they've embedded themselves.

Jason X just looked so *B*A*D* from the previews that I just shook my head. Of course, your mileage may vary. :)

Well, if you don't like slasher flicks, it would've been bad. Although the line everyone kept making fun of from the preview ("He just wants his machete back.") was actually taken out of context.

I like suspense, although I don't always consider it horror. The Birds is not one of my favorites, though -- I really think it was a phoned-in job by Hitchcock.

Yeah, dumb move on their part. Between the summer crush and the fact that October always has a higher interest in horror flicks, they're basically dooming this one. Maybe they hope to get the DVD out by October, instead.
