I just got the following email from Dan's Chocolates:

Son and Daughter's day is this Sunday, August 11th. And despite the fact that little Johnny may have scraped the ice (and paint) off your car this winter with his snowshovel, or the "emerging" Rebecca went straight to her summer job from college without stopping by home, some Dan's Chocolates should be in order.

You must be shitting me. Haven't these people ever heard that "every day is Children's Day?"

(aside -- Elayna didn't buy the "children's day" argument any more than I did at her age)

I'm opposed to much of the Hallmarkization that goes on anyway, but this is just ludicrous.

They should just cut to the chase and advertise "Hey Parents: It's Love-Your-Kids Day!"

(Or possibly, "It's Buy-Your-Kids-Stuff-To-Prove-You-Love-Them Day!")

Though wouldn't the average kid rather get a Hershey bar and a $5 toy than $10 worth of high-end chocolates?
