So, no time for a real update. But here's the quick and dirty of the day so far:

Registration went well. Got Elayna taken care of, no problems. There's a dress code, which is bullshit, but it won't be enforced until January, and I hope enough angry letters will have been written by then to get rid of it (second graders do not need to be told that jeans are banned, and fuck any superintendant wasting time telling them otherwise). [livejournal.com profile] shadesong already has a ton of folks signed up for the Girl Scouts, and it was nice to see some of the other parents again.

Lunch was at Bagel Palace, which is always good. Had a veggie omelet and hash browns.

The LL class for the librarians went well, although a crisis at the circulation desk took three members out of the class. But I think it was a good class nonetheless.

The guitar came! I had it routed to the office, since they required a signature. Haven't opened it yet, and won't until tonight.

In a few minutes, I'm heading over to [livejournal.com profile] shadesong's office, where her grandparents will pick us up, and we'll go clothes shopping for Miss Kid, followed by dinner at the gourmet California Pizza Kitchen (mmm, blt pizza).

Off to finish up here, then head on out.

Dress codes

I actually like the dress code at my kids' school ... partly coz it has a ton of options for the bits and pieces the kids wear, but mostly coz it means I don't have to think all that much (oh and I get to save TONS of money on clothing - the school has a uniform recycling program, so I get all their school clothes free of charge and then just turn in the too small ones when I need larger ones).

Then again it's not a really strict dress code - the kids can still wear whatever they want in their hair, whatever colour socks they dig out first (in the case of my son this usually means his socks don't match - a style that was initiated by my brother who lives with us), and the only regulation on shoes (and this is my regulation not sure how the school feels) is that they can't wear the shoes with blinking lights in them (bought for them by my ex's sister, and I may never forgive her ).

Yah, we have the collars or turtlenecks rule too ... although I've sent my girl-child in in a tshirt under a jumper-dress and they didn't complain.

If you fail at getting the code repealed, see if you can get a uniform exchange started. Ooo, would make a great girl scout project ;)
