So, I'm getting Elayna ready, and I ask her if she wants to buy the school lunch.

"It's hamburger," says I.

"No, just pack a sandwich. Because the hamburgers at school have fish in the middle," she responded.

Pause.

"Umm, sweetie? Are you sure you're not thinking of fish sandwiches?"

Pause.

"I'm sure."

Okay, I'm not sure, but it's not like I want to cajole her into eating a crappy burger if she doesn't want it. But confusing fish sandwiches and burgers takes a little bit of work.

Then again, this is the kid who told us that she had fish sticks for breakfast on the day she had French toast sticks.

Well, it's entirely possible she's right about there being fish in things that shouldn't include fish as an ingrediant. In high school, I was friends with the superintendent's daughter, and so I heard things he wouldn't have wanted the public to hear -- such as the time he dropped in for lunch in the cafeteria of one of the schools and got the worst sloppy joe of his life. He went into the cafeteria, demanded to know what was in it, and found out they'd used leftover tuna salad to stretch the recipe. (The cafeteria director retired after that year...)

*ponders the mystery of cafeteria burgers*

y'know, for all the taste and texture, she might as well be right, no matter what the actual ingrediants are.
