So, we got the word on what happened:

There was a contractor working on the Science Bldg last night and cut the
power to the building.

The power was not turned back on and last night the UPS kicked in and when
the UPS ran out and then the generators kicked in. FMD this morning,
noticed the generators were on and said ...hmmm, what are these doing on,
and turned them off....and we have been down since.

Oy. The pigfuckers, they are everywhere. Fighting with the fuckmonkeys for supremacy.

FMD didn't bother to check why the generators were on?

In my world, that'll cost a job or two...

Did these people turn off their brains before they started turning other things off?

Math/Cs had scheduled downtime last night from 6-10 PM, to do the physical server move from NDB to MSC. Why is your password stuff on our server anyway? *eayes you suspiciously*

No, universities are not real world. Over here the generators are one of those things that cost jobs for mistakes, or at the very least a super-painful ass-chewing. The worst part being when the generators don't work right, your fuck-up detection scripts can't kick out resumes, because the power is out.

I remember my boss telling me when I started that jobs were pretty secure as staff in Academia.
He said that for me to lose my job, I would have to destroy all the hardware in our server room. And then not apologize...

Sound real world to you?
