Day in review

Got the haircut. I like it, but other than the student worker, no one noticed or commented.

Freshman Elections seem to have gone okay. No word on whether we'll need to have a runoff.

Got Elayna to karate, then got soaked on my way home. It stopped raining two seconds after I got in the house, of course. We got the school for the open house in plenty of time. Since I hadn't eaten dinner yet (and lunch was at 11:00), I bought a piece of lemon pudding cake to tide me over, and then we had the pta meeting. We knew the budgets had been cut, but it was still disappointing to realize how bad things were. Anyone who's childless and local who wants to help her school we have Publix and Kroger partner cards (basically, you scan them before you shop, and they donate money to the school) -- let me know if you want one! And likewise, if any of you eat any items that have the "box tops for education" thingee on them, we could use those to raise money for the school as well.

There were six or seven kids' parents represented from her class (better than the four from last year, but still disappointing). We met Jake's mom. Jake is one of the two boys that Elayna's "dating" in her class. The mother of Patrick (the other boy) was also there (although we'd met her before). We had much fun joking about the tragic love triangle there. It turns out that last year, Jake was dating Taylor, the little girl in Prime Time (aftercare) who looks exactly like Elayna. So we know his type, for sure. :-)

Anyway, Jake's mom is a flake/nutcase. Hard to describe (although she's exactly like one Emory faculty member, but that won't do anyone any good). A little off in the head. She made an "Elayna" doll with blonde hair for Jake, which really really creeps me out (and no, I don't think it's inflatable!)

We've got a parent/teacher conference set for monday, so we only talked generalities today. But Elayna's biggest problem is talking back to teachers (big shock), with some associated whining. She also gets distracted by the boys during snack time and dawdles, to no one's surprise. But she's doing well, and we talked about getting her to read more advanced books (although she's well on her way to her Advanced Reader goal), and saw that she's actually been keeping her journal (even if she takes forever on the entries).

When we got home, we were pleasantly surprised to find that she'd not only been good for jet_li_wannabe, but that she'd done most of her homework in cursive. Given how little time she had, we were very pleased.

I grabbed a "real" dinner (store-brand frozen mustard greens, zapped and tossed with a tiny bit of butter and tabasco), read some more Zelazny, if I summarize any more, I'll have to swtich to the present tense.

So, that's the day.

I'll be happy to pitch in with the cards -- I do most of my grocery shopping right near your place.

And you'll have to tell me which Emory person you're thinking of. If I know her, chances are I'll help you make fun of her.

Would it be useful for me to collect boxtops here and send them to you?
Does it need to be a boxtop coupon or does just the boxtop work?

You forgot to mention writing this journal entry. :)

We need the boxtop with coupon (not all products are eligible, although most are).

And yeah, I left off a few minutes before the journal entry. :-)
