So, at about 7:10 this morning, the phone rings. No one calls this early. No one. So I go over to the phone, and the caller ID says it's from Elayna's school.

There's no better way to have a heart attack in the morning than this.

I pick it up, and am relieved to hear Elayna's voice.

"Adam, I forgot that we were supposed to bring our favorite stuffed animal into school today."

I hadn't realized I'd been holding my breath until I let it out then.

I explained to Elayna that it was too late, as there was no way that shadesong and I could make it there before work. She seemed okay with that (and she knows that if she doesn't tell us about an assignment). And I'm just relieved it wasn't anything serious.

Anyway, the new central computer lab is opening today, and we have to be there for the grand opening, so I'll be offline for a few hours (but getting lots of free coffee).

When my kids' school calls, they always start the phone call with "This is *name* from the school and everything is fine. I was just calling because ..." It's especially nerve-wracking when the name is that of the nurse though. I now hold my breath for the "and everything is fine" bit!

I was actually shocked to hear Elayna herself on the phone. They might have let her stay on the line to avert the heart-attack slightly.

Our school nurse doesn't do nearly as good a job as yours does of reassuring right away (found this out last week after the call about Elayna's fall).

Ours its "this is name from creme, there's no emergency, but..." they don't call if everything is actualy fine fine, but it hasn't been anything actually bad bad. Toddlers get bumps and toothmarks.

We do! I just need to figure out when. Tonight is when Ro and hubby arrive. Tomorrow is the party. Friday is still unknown. Saturday is probably the Spooky puppet show. And I'm leaving Sunday for the trip to Chicago (getting back next Friday). I may not be able to do it before next weekend! :-( I wonder if anyone's come up with a way to set it up via the web (there are online dice-rollers, but we'd need something to keep track of positions that doesn't involve just typing everything in).
