In spite of the fact that they supposedly can't learn tricks, our Siamese, Max, has learned to roll over.

It just involves my pushing him when he's at the proper angle.

He has been giving me his "We Are Not Amused" stare ever since.

Heeheeehee.

Clint has taught Miss Kitty to raise up off her front legs when he says "Stand up like Bucky!"

He's weird.

Hey that tricks almost as good as my kitties' trick. They know how to fly for short distances.

My father has taught our cats to come when called and to come and meow at him when the oven timer goes off, since he's too deaf to hear it over the TV.

[livejournal.com profile] vidicon has taught [livejournal.com profile] bheansidhe's cat to speak when spoken to, but now can't get her to shut the hell up...

Malkav knows how to turn invisible, see invisible creatures, and levitate to the top of the entertainment center. Oh yeah, and to create scratches without me realizing that I've been scratched.

Cats can so learn tricks! It's more a matter of negotiation than dog-like training, but it's possible.

Our Popsy has 2 tricks: she jumps up to my hand for petting (sort of like a non-hydrated porpoising) and she fetches. Sometimes. When she feels like it. So maybe the latter isn't a trick exactly. And the first isn't a *great* trick, but it's a trick and it's hers.

I've tried a bit to teach the other cats tricks but they're too dense... er, independant. Yes, that's it, independent.

My favorite flying trick they perform is right after they've peed all over the clean clothes in the laundry room. Lots of lift and distance with that one!

I had a friend who once taught his cat the name of a communist leader.... he'd say to the cat

"Chairman!"

and the cat would reply

"Mao"

I actually saw it happen on cue quite a few times.
