So, the reason I'm ludicrously behind on all lj and other online activities is that yesterday, I spent the entire day at [livejournal.com profile] voltbang and [livejournal.com profile] rloveking's house, playing lots of Blood Bowl.

[livejournal.com profile] voltbang and I first finished out our previous match. Thanks to a riot at the kickoff, the second half was short, but his orcs managed to score another touchdown, meaning my chaos dwarves got shut out 2-0.

However, thanks to my MVP award going to the same player who completed a lucky pass ealier in the game, I now have a blocker who has the Guard abillity, a damned fine thing to have, as I soon found out.

In the second game, I actually mananged to score my first ever BB touchdown, as I got a lucky roll to take down his ogre, and my bull centaur trotted down the sideline for a TD. We stopped after that, as Maddie had to come home from daycare due to a fever, so after [livejournal.com profile] rloveking picked her up, [livejournal.com profile] voltbang and I took the poor sick kid to The War Room, because everyone knows that the cure for all ailments, at any age, is a kick-ass gaming store.

At least, that's my theory, and I'm sticking to it.

The store was nifty (and Maddie found lots of Shiny Things to play with -- she's clearly picking up her daddy's love of miniatures), and one that I wish was closer, although I'd be beyond broke if it was.

Afterwards, we got back to their place, and [livejournal.com profile] jet_li_wannabe and Jerry came over. After doing the Dance of Commercial Incompetance with Dominos, we finally had pizza to eat, and [livejournal.com profile] jet_li_wannabe and I played.

I'd never played against a finesse team before, and, frankly, he kicked my ass. After seven moves, I was down 2-0. With only one turn left in the half, I finally remembered what Chaos Dwarves really do well, which isn't scoring points. It's hurting people. I think I took three or four of his players off the field that turn, including one who'll miss the next game as well. So at the half, I'm down 2-0, but I've opened up more cans of whoop-ass. :-)

And, of course, while this was going on, we also watched the Thrashers hit a three-game winning streak! Woo-hoo!

We headed home after that. Overall, a damned fun day filled with miniature monsters attacking each other over a football, as well as lots of good conversation, of course.

Blood Bowl sounds pretty cool.

Reminds me of the old NFL PC game I used to play... I was a defense *monster*, I can't count the number of points I made on touchbacks :)

There's a website that has a bloodbowl survival kit. You can print out all the materials as pdf's in the right size, and then paste them down to cardboard or whatever to make a board, throwing template, the works. Print the rules straight from the games workshop site, and use chess pieces to represent your team. All set, no money. Or wait another two weeks or so. The boxed set is due late this month.

It was a pretty good day. I think the Men in Horny Hats are in trouble come the second half. You broke a lot of them once you got stomping. You may end up making those two goals back in the end. I think the first game you and I played was skewed because we are both playing physical tough teams with high armor values. hard to break an orc, and you did end up putting both my goblins on the sidelines if you'll recall. Them hornyhats run around a lot and move the ball, but they squish easy.

Let me know if you want a driver for war room sometime in the future when I can arrange for someone else to watch Maddie.
