Big thanks to the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] karlita, for gifting us with a gorgeous and much needed salad caddy set (probably not the right term -- a combination of a salt shaker, pepper shaker, vinegar dispenser, and oil dispenser, along with round caddy to hold them).

Now that we have it, I've got a question. Can and should vinegar be stored in the holders? This is a typical restaurant/salad bar style dispenser, open at the top. With oil, my inclination is to use it only when I'm planning on eating salad that night (as I'd imagine oil left out will get rancid quickly). With vinegar, I'm not as certain. Anyone know?

Yay - glad you liked it! Retro gifts from a Retro girl...

No, I really don't know the salad dressing answer - perhaps the fridge is the place for the bottles to live when they're not in use...

I don't know, man. I thought vinegar was already spoiled. I think it'd be okay.

Actually, if you are worried about either the oil OR the vinegar, try taking a small square of Saran Wrap and placing over the bottle but under the "top". It's what we used to do when I worked for a caterer. If the top is threaded, the Saran Wrap will be worked into the threads, creating an airtight seal. It'll work as well as putting the stuff back into the original jar --once you get the hang of doing it without tearing the Saran Wrap.
