I'm in the middle of writing a huge post (probably won't be up until tomorrow, at the earliest) about some of my inner beliefs (or lack thereof). And although this post ain't ready, I figured I might as well append the lyrics I was planning on including in that message.
XTC – Dear God

If you've never heard this song, let me know. I'll get you either the XTC or the Sarah McLachlan versions -- it's so much more powerful when you hear the emotion put into it.

Dear God, hope you got the letter and...
I pray you can make it better down here
I don't mean a big reduction in the price of beer
But all the people that you made in your image
See them starving on their feet
'Cause they don't get enough to eat
From God,
I can't believe in you

Dear God, sorry to disturb you but...
I feel that I should be heard loud and clear
We all need a big reduction in amount of tears
And all the people that you made in your image
See them fighting in the street
'Cause they can't make opinions meet
About God,
I can't believe in you

Did you make disease, and the diamond blue?
Did you make mankind after we made you?
And the devil, too?

Dear God, don't know if you've noticed but...
Your name is on a lot of quotes in this book
And us crazy humans wrote it you should take a look
And all the people that you made in your image
Still believing that junk is true
Well I know it ain't, and so do you, dear God
I can't believe in
I don't believe in
I won't believe in heaven and hell
No saints, no sinners, no devil as well
No pearly gates, no thorny crown
You're always letting us humans down
The wars you bring, the babes you drown
Those lost at sea and never found
And it's the same the whole world 'round
The hurt I see helps to compound
That Father, Son and Holy Ghost
Is just somebody's unholy hoax
And if you're up there you'd perceive
That my heart's here upon my sleeve
If there's one thing I don't believe in
It's you
Dear God

And

Roll The Bones - Rush

Well, you can stake that claim,
Good work is the key to good fortune.
Winners take that praise.
Losers seldom take that blame.
If they don't take that game,
And sometimes the winner takes nothing.
We draw our own designs,
But fortune has to make that frame.

We go out in the world and take our chances.
Fate is just the weight of circumstances.
That's the way that lady luck dances.
Roll the bones.

Why are we here? Because we're here.
Roll the bones.
Why does it happen? Because it happens.
Roll the bones.

Faith is cold as ice,
Why are little ones born only to suffer?
For the want of immunity,
Or a bowl of rice?
Well, who would hold a price,
On the heads of the innocent children,
If there's some immortal power,
To control the dice?

We come into the world and take our chances.
Fate is just the weight of circumstances.
That's the way that lady luck dances.
Roll the bones.

Jack -- relax, Get busy with the facts.
No zodiacs or almanacs, No maniacs in polyester slacks.
Just the facts.
Gonna kick some gluteus max, It's a parallax -- you dig?
You move around, The small gets big. It's a rig.
It's action -- reaction, Random interaction.
So who's afraid, Of a little abstraction?
Can't get no satisfaction, From the facts?
You better run, homeboy,
A fact's a fact, From Nome to Rome, boy.

What's the deal? Spin the wheel.
If the dice are hot -- take a shot.
Play your cards.
Show us what you got, What you're holding.
If the cards are cold, Don't go folding.
Lady Luck is golden;
She favours the bold. That's cold.
Stop throwing stones.
The night has a thousand saxophones.
So get out there and rock,
And roll the bones.
Get busy!

Roll the bones.

Why are we here? Because we're here.
Roll the bones.
Why does it happen? Because it happens.
Roll the bones.

Anyway, English party was nifty. Instead of his usual vennison sausages, Dr. S brought beef ones that had lots of jalepeno. They were equally yummy. As was all the other food. Hours later, I'm still full. And exhausted. And I just found an annoying bug in our FirstClass server. And I want to whine about my arm hurting (long story there, and not too serious). And I just realized I've got only 45 minutes left get a shitload of stuff done, so I'm off to do the shitload.

"Dear God" is probably one of my favorite songs ever, in either version. Thank you for reminding me. Got to go find those mp3's on the other computer.
