Okay, so we do have a connection from down here. But with all the other stuff going on, I doubt I'll be online too often (it's not our computer or our house).

Anyway, the trip went well. Too well. We got to the airport two hours early (expecting the chaos of last year), and had our bags checked in within five minutes. We weren't asked the usual security questions ("did anyone else pack your bag," etc, although Elayna could have said yes to those, I suppose), nor did they ask for ID. The security gate was the same way, and we were at our gate with an hour and a half to spare.

After eating food and reading for a while, we found Judy ([livejournal.com profile] shadesong's birthmom), who was on the same connecting flight. The flight went smooth, and soon we were at Daytona airport. Butch (Judy's brother) wasn't there, but one call resolved that, and he picked us up, and soon we were in Deland.

After greeting the boys and eating lunch, the lack of sleep caught up to us. Hard. We decided to take naps, and the next thing we knew, it was nearly 6. Fortunately, Elayna had kept herself occupied playing Xbox with the boys (yes, Elayna is playing Baldur's Gate). We all went out to dinner, and then the household gradually drifted off to sleep while I stayed up until 1 reading a Brad Meltzer novel.

I don't think I've posted about [livejournal.com profile] shadesong's birth family, but they are amazingly cool people. The two boys, aged 13 and 11, are wonderful with Elayna, and are easy for both adults and kids to talk to. Both are damned smart, too, and genuinely nice. Butch and Maryann, the parents of the boys and [livejournal.com profile] shadesong's aunt and uncle, are richer than I care to think about, and absolutely laid back. All we do each year at their place is drink coffee, eat tons of food (diet? What diet?), go out to restaurants, explore the town, and just relax with them. They're nicer, frankly, than my own family. And, of course, Judy, [livejournal.com profile] shadesong's birthmom, is as nice as the rest of her family, and the reason we're here in the first place. :-)

Anyway, it's nearly eleven, so I should leave the room and greet the rest of the household (and, more importantly, get coffee).
