Subterranean Press has just announced two books that I'll be acquiring, no matter what it takes:

GRRM: A RRETROSPECTIVE by George R.R. Martin -- A mammoth collection,
including a ton of never before collected and unpublished material. The
finished book will be over 1,000 pages!

THE DEVILS IN THE DETAILS by Tim Powers and James P. Blaylock -- An entire
collection of all original stories, written solo and in collaboration, each
illustrated by Phil Parks.

At $40, the former is a no-brainer. At $35, the latter (a much smaller volume) is less tempting, but Blaylock and Powers are too good to resist.

Ooo! The Martin sounds great!

I'll order it through Amazon, though, because it makes me nervous to have SP charge my card months before they ship (which is against merchant rules), especially since they screwed up one of my few orders and it took me a month to get them to respond. Resolved satisfactorily, but it took way too much effort.

As long as there's no chance of this one selling out, I think that's the way to go, too.

Yeah, that's a risk. OTOH, it's a risk even when ordering from them, apparently. They'd charged my card months previously, I didn't get my book even after all the pre-orders and many current orders got theirs (according to reports on TH), and apparently got a copy at long last when they were close to selling out (again, according to what people said). Since I would have had little recourse if they'd stiffed me-- it was LONG past charge-back deadlines-- I was relieved to finally get it... but VERY reluctant to risk ordering from them again. Especially since they were SOOOO slow to respond to me when it happened.
