So, busy day.

We had the usual insanity surrounding the Girl Scout meeting. I'd talked to the person at Elayna's Dojo on Tuesday, and she'd said that we could use it on Sunday, but since she was so disorganized (her own self-description), we should double-confirm with her on Thursday. Of course, with the sub-freezing weather on Thurs, we didn't go, so we didn't confirm, and not surprisingly, she forgot. So we insanely cleaned the house this morning, went to the Dojo just in case, left a note (and myself, for fifteen minutes) at the Dojo to redirect everyone back to our house, and held the meeting at our house.

Do you know how fucking insane three little girls can be?

They scared the cat into finding a new hiding place. We seriously thought he'd somehow slipped out the door. There are only three or four decent hiding placed in the house for him, and we searched them all. I think he developed the ability to slide into another dimension for a while. Fortunately, he emerged.

The meeting went well enough. We went over cookie sale stuff (I'll post more about that this Friday, when I can start taking orders), made sure they understand the safety rules in particular, and did the usual games and activities in an attempt to keep the girls from destroying what was left of my sanity. It mostly worked.

[livejournal.com profile] jet_li_wannabe, Tracy, and Thomas came by later, and we all hopped in [livejournal.com profile] jet_li_wannabe's Jeep to head over to [livejournal.com profile] chelona and [livejournal.com profile] jet_li_wannabe's's place for dinner (Chinese food and pizza), and Blood Bowl. [livejournal.com profile] jet_li_wannabe and [livejournal.com profile] voltbang played half a league game, while I played a teaching half with [livejournal.com profile] mfree, with Thomas and [livejournal.com profile] blueingenue as spectators. It went okay, but I really don't think I have the teaching thing down yet, and the large group probably made focusing a bit harder than it should have been. Aplogies for all three for not conveying things as well as could be.

One revelation is that Tracy, in spite of the fact that she likes to make fun of [livejournal.com profile] jet_li_wannabe's gamer friends, has discovered an impressive talent for painting miniatures. [livejournal.com profile] jet_li_wannabe also does a damned nice job with them. When I finally get my miniatures, I'll be farming some of the painting out to both of them, along with [livejournal.com profile] voltbang (as I'm fairly confident that I'll never have any talent at all with the things).

On coming home, I finished The Paths of the Dead. I'd been reading it at lunch at work, but with the hell weeks recently, I wanted to finish it, dammit, so I read the final 200 pages or so this weekend. I enjoyed it quite a lot, although I really really want the next book now, dammit. I'm also really tempted to re-read all of the other books. I'm a bit worried about the direction one of the characters is headed in, not because it's out of character, but because it might not bode well for him. But he's also the most complex and unreadable of the characters, so I'm not making any assumptions.

And although a few passages rankled, I didn't find the exxagerated dialogue nearly as bothersome as [livejournal.com profile] rollick did. I'm also not getting nearly as good a post out of writing about it. Go figure.

After finishing the book, VH1 classic played, in a short period of time, videos by The Clash, Concrete Blonde, The Jesus and Mary Chain, a Smithereens video other than "A Girl Like You," and, to top it off, a video by the Blasters (Dave Alvin at Smithe's Old Bar is still the greatest bachelor party I ever attended). Yes, I just feel the need to reiterate how amazing this channel is.

and finally,

I've added a few items to my Amazon wish list today. Most are the typical DVD box sets (Futurama, Family Guy, Red Dwarf) and the next Harry Potter book, of course. But I also found this book, which I simply must own. And I suspect that many of you must own it as well.

Yeep. It's nearly 3. I've got to be awake at 8:30 tomorrow, as we've got a commitment early in the morning. And I'm not tired yet. Crap. Maybe if I shut down the computer I'll be able to sleep.
