First, am I the only one not getting LJ notices? I'm getting notes for one out of every five or so comments. A mild pain for responses to my own posts (I can load my Recent Entries page for that), a big pain for responses to comments I've left in other people's journals.

I realize that since Novemeber, I've encountered quite a few new folks on LJ. So, I'd love it if any of you who haven't already been there could go to my post at http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=yendi&keyword=Usernames&filter=all and answered the question there, as I'm always curious about LJ usernames.

Also, please feel free to fill out the AIM/Yahoo username survey, so I can know to add you to my buddy lists. It can be found at http://www.livejournal.com/talkread.bml?journal=yendi&itemid=227592

Oh, and free users can now get syndication feeds, too! http://www.livejournal.com/syn/ is where you go to get them. Free users are limited to .99 points, which means they can't create new feeds, but can access one or two existing ones.

Oh, and that writing post from earlier? I got a full page and a half (single spaced) done. Still have no idea what's going on with the character, but I like her. I just added another paragraph, and I could probably keep going, but I'm eventually going to have to come up with some explanations for what's going on with her. Damned literary convention, with its stoopid "plots" and "motive" questions. :-)

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] scarcrest for the link to the website and organization you should all support, http://www.protect.org/index.shtml ; Warning -- the stuff protect.org deals with -- child-protection -- may be a trigger for people with any major childhood abuse issues.

And I still haven't figured out what I'm doing for the SuperBowl. I don't like just going to random parties, and I don't like sports bars, either. But I can't imagine getting the peace and quiet to watch it at home.

Anyway, on to The Big Summary of Saturday.

Woke up late. At nearly 11, so I had to rush to get Elayna ready for karate. We got there, and got good news and bad news. The good news -- her friend Nancy, whose brother was in Elayna's junior karate class, will be starting karate as well, and will be in Elayna's pre-teen class! She's happy to have another friend there. The bad news, though, was that Nancy was also a Girl Scout now, and had already hit just about everyone up for cookie sales, alas. Not that Elayna's doing poorly -- she's already sold over 100 boxes -- but it's tempting to get a bit cutthroat.

While Elayna was in karate, I finally bought a new filter for the goldfish. Poor, neglected goldfish. Their previous filter died as the result of a power surge, and we haven't been able to make it to the pet store in ages. The water was getting ugly. The pet shop (the one at Toco Hills, for the Atlantans) is going out of business, so we got the filter for 30% off, which is always nice on the day after you spend $300 at Publix. Also picked up coffee at Coffee Plantation, because I desperately needed it. :-)

Got back in time to watch the second half of the class, including Elayna doing surprisingly well on the jo staff, something she's had very little practice with. The change in classes has made a huge difference for her, even in a short period of time.

Afterwards, we hit Chili's for lunch -- she normally chooses Bagel Palace, but decided to be fickle today. That, or she had a corn dog craving. Afterwards, we hit Bruster's, where I made a discovery and felt guilty -- turns out that the baby cones -- the little one-ounce cones that Elayna loves (and still never finishes), are free. Since I wasn't buying anything, I felt guilty, but they wouldn't accept payment for it. I did drop a buck in the tip jar, but it still felt wrong.

Got back, and cleaned until [livejournal.com profile] anexstacy arrived, so that she and [livejournal.com profile] shadesong could head to the airport to pick up our guest, [livejournal.com profile] penguiboi. While they were gone, I made an unfortunate discovery, however: Elayna had been carving on the dining room table, and had managed to spill paint into the carvings today (which is the only reason I noticed it). We had a discussion about it -- no yelling, even though I was furious -- because, frankly, Elayna, when she's confronted with any wrongdoings on her part, is more than capable of generating enough contrition. Which doesn't prevent more wrongdoings, but makes yelling more pointless than it would be (and I've never been an advocate of it, anyway -- yelling at a child, to me, teeters on the brink of emotional abuse, frankly, notwithstanding situations where the yelling is done to avert an immediate threat, like when they're about to walk near a piece of glass).

OTOH, I did get to use a line that I never thought I'd utter: "Wait until your mother gets home." :-)

[livejournal.com profile] shadesong, with [livejournal.com profile] penguiboi and [livejournal.com profile] anexstacy, did indeed arrive, bearing coffee. Once Elayna realized that, although she wasn't allowed to watch Kim Possible or play any games, she was certainly allowed to hang around, things went fine, as Penguinboi brought out the gifts he had for [livejournal.com profile] shadesong and Elayna, and Elayna got to play with her new stuffed puppy. We all chatted about Buffy and Tivo and MST3K and other fun topics for a while, until [livejournal.com profile] anexstacy had to head out, and while waiting for [livejournal.com profile] libidoergosum and [livejournal.com profile] blueingenue, we ordered pizza, and made another discovery: That Cinnapie that PapaJohns is selling (and giving away free with a large pizza)? It's good. really good. Better than their pizza, even.

Once the gang was here, we settled down for a movie marathon of Oscar, Clue, and Mortal Kombat (during which I also had my writing epiphany), and when that ended, I came in here to play DoomLegacy (the GL-updated version of the classic, and still one of the best damned stress-relief games, for those times when Wingnuts just doesn't cut it), surf the net, and write. And now it's 5 in the fucking morning. Crap.
