The next Steven Brust Pheonix Guards book, The Lord of Castle Black, is now listed at Amazon, and is coming out on August 1! After going seven years between the last two books, it's nice to have a wait of less than a year.

Thank goodness. After the way the last one left off, I was somewhat annoyed about the idea of waiting another two or three years for the next part of the series. If they're going to be coming out fairly close to each other, I find the process less annoying.

(Course, he's still splitting it up so what could have been one massive $25 George R.R. Martin-style novel will instead be $75 worth of hardbacks, but since I get my books free, it's hardly fair for me to complain too much about that.)

Been waiting patiently on this one m'self. Gonna have to change my records though - I have it listed that the title was supposed to have been _Viscount of Adrilankha_, not _The Lord of Castle Black_. I'm to ready for this one.

It's been so long, I didn't realize the final book was being divided into a trilogy of its own. I mean ... it's been that long. Nor did I notice that The Paths of the Dead was the 1st book of that trilogy, hence I've ignored it as some offshoot outside the Vlad/Khaavren(sp?) 'universe'. Now I'm behind, curse-the-luck. Someone else has got it backwards, too - according to one fan site:

1. The Phoenix Guards
2. Five Hundred Years After
3. The Viscount of Adrilankha - which has been split into a trilogy:
3.1 The Paths of the Dead (is out)
3.2 The Enchantress of Dzur Mountain (is not out)
3.3 The Lord of Castle Black (is not out)

[ All of Viscount has been written. Enchantress will come out in about 9 months -- August 2003? Steve says industry standard is 12-18 months, but he got Tor to go faster. ]

So the proper order is "Paths", then "Lord", then "Enchantress" ... right?

- Rob
[ who became disenchanted with the Vlad series right after Athyra. ]
