Blood Bowl last night
Feb. 3rd, 2003 12:37 pmSo, last night,
voltbang hosted Blood Bowl at his house.
voltbang and his Orcs played against his college buddy Chris (playing with Dwarves in his first league game), while my Chaos Dwarves took on
jet_li_wannabe's Norse. We got one half in, and I managed to take a 1-0 lead.
The nutshell summary of the half:
My kickoff landed only slightly behind midfield. Having gotten a kickoff roll that gave me a free turn, I could (and probably should) have sent my hobgoblin up the sideline to try to pick the ball up. Alas, I botched one of my blocks, and the turn ended (although I did knock out one of the Norse). Mike picked the ball up, and a few turns later, pulled off a nifty pass play that looked to have me screwed, with his catcher standing six spots from the goal near the sideline, and all of my nearest attackers stuck in an ogre's tackle zone.
Fortunately, neither of us had taken into account the Bull Centaur on the other side of the field. With his six movement, plus his Sprint skill, he was able to push it (and got lucky rolls) enough to attack. I only managed a pushback, but that was enough to put the catcher in a tough situation. Mike wasn't able to free up anyone to help attack the centaur, so he was forced to attempt to dodge out of the tackle zone. He had to make three dodges, two into other tackle zones. Nasty odds. He eventually botched.
And broke his armor.
And died.
My hobgoblin took advantage of the situation to grab the ball, and make a quick pass to the centaur (cheap Star Player points!), who then managed to sprint up the sidelines, with blockers galore, and score on the final play of the game, after pushing it one more time (gotta love Sprint and Sure Feet). At halftime (and bedtime), the score was thus 1-0. I'll be receiving the ball next half, which means I'll basically spend the entire time doing my damnest to stop Mike from getting the ball. At 1-2 going in, I really need a win.
The only other away-from-the-ball highlight was that Diablo, my Chaos Dwarf Blocker who was MVP two games ago (and thus on the verge of gaining a level) managed to kill another of Mike's players (honest, I was playing to maim! I get just as many points that way). Alas, since he killed him thanks to a cheap shot, the ref caught him, and he's on the sidelines for the rest of the game.
As always, it was a fun evening (although
jet_li_wannabe probably found it less so, especially since he had just painted one of the guys who died).
