failing the this Little Piggy test
Feb. 4th, 2003 09:11 amSo, we hosted little Savannah last night, and she was, as always, a charming and wonderful guest, making repeated visits to the gerbil cage (with no repeats of the infamous "stupid mouse" incident in which she released one of the gerbils, and then scolded it), Overall, it was a wonderful experience, as she's just a delight.
But it's damned clear that my lack of experience with toddlers (I only met Elayna when she was four, started doing parenty-type stuff with her when she was five, and basically became her stepdad when she was six) is showing.
I was fine giving the comforting hugs when she hurt herself ("Kitty bite me," although the "scratch" was both invisible and moved about ten times before settling on a finger), playing "cards" with her (a jigsaw puzzle), keeping her out of trouble, and cuddling her when she got cranky and tired.
But when she stuck out her foot and asked me to play "This Little Piggy," I was just stumped.
I mean, I know that the first piggy went to market. And the last one cried "wee wee wee" all the way home. But what the fuck did the other piggies do?
I bluffed. Must have worked. That, or one of the piggies really did go to Rome.

Date: 2003-02-04 07:15 am (UTC)I did Little Piggies on her a few weeks ago and when the final toe came, I stuck my face in her shoulder and did wee, wee, wee! in this hyperexcited-mouse squeak. Personally I think kids like Little Piggie because it's a toe massage. Twirl each toe with your fingers - doesn't that feel good?
