Yes! Thirteen nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director (Rob Marshall), Best Actress (Renee Zellweger, also known as the Future Mrs. [livejournal.com profile] yendi, if my evil plan works out), 2X Best Supporting Actress (Queen Latifah and Catherine Zeta Jones, who will probably nullify each other, but I'd love a tie), Best Supporting Actor (John C. Reilly), Costumes, Art Direction, Cinematography, Sound, Original Song ("I Move On"), Adapted Screenplay (Bill Condon), and Editing. Of those, it hands-down deserves at least half of those (notably Picture, Screenplay, and the supporting actor/actress nods for Latifah and Relly [and yes, [livejournal.com profile] shadesong, I know that you think Ed Harris deserves it, and he'll probably get it, since the awards are as often as not for body of work (Pollack), as anything else], as well as costumes), and there's not one that I'd be upset to see it win.

Other notables:The animated films category has five flicks: Ice Age ; Lilo & Stitch ; Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron ; Spirited Away ; Treasure Planet. Sing it with me, folks: One of these things is not like the other, one of them doesn't belong. Four good films (of which Spirited Away is easily the one that deserves the award, though), and Spirit. Someone in Hollywood is on Crack. Oh, wait, I forgot. Everyone in Hollywood is on crack.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding (a cute romantic comedy, imho) is up only for Best Original Screenplay, even though it was adapted from Nia's play (let's hear it for loopholes!).

Oh, and Nick Cage is up again for best actor. Shoot me now. No nepotism in Hollwood, my ass.

Anyway, the list is up at

I was excited for Chicago ~I have seen it twice so far~~
Still wondering how Jack got a nod cause I found the movie About Schmidt boring ~~I am a little surprised that Road to Perdition didn't get more of a nod~~

My Big Fat Greek Wedding was one of the funniest things I have seen in a long time ~~Nia is so grateful that it is fun to see her at the award shows~~

Good Luck Mr Zellweger!

Dude, did you see Adaptation? I don't object to the nomination, and I don't like Nick Cage all that much. He looks like a horse.

Go figure on the Stallion thing. My vote is for Spirited Away. Miyazaki is a god.

Today's random thing that I'm surprised that I know and you don't: Very few studios actually submit their animated films for consideration. There almost wasn't an animated film Oscar last year because they only had two films submitted (and someone submitted another just under the wire)(there have to be at least 3 in order to have the category). So essentially, anything that gets submitted in that category will be nominated. Unless more than 5 movies are submitted, which was probably not the case this year.

Okay, good. It shook the foundations of my faith in your pop culture knowledge to think you didn't. But yeah, they always nominate five, and of course I agreed with you on Spirited Away.

As always, go to a Charlie Kaufman movie because it was written by Charlie Kaufman. Any other reasons pale by comparison.

I liked _About Schmidt_. I found it a very human movie.

I hope that your evil plan involves cracking Renee Zellweger on the head and taking all her money after you marry her. I liked "Chicago" a lot, but I just don't care for her much as an actress. She's puffy and squinty and squeaky and cutesy in an annoying kewpie-doll kinda way.

Adaptation is definitely worth seeing. I'm not a Nick Cage fan at all, but he deserves this nomination.

Why the Spirit hate? the soundtrack was ass.. but the movie was beautiful.. a very well animated easy to watch movie.. I was surprised how much I liked it actually..

If Spirited Away doesn't win its a complete travesty.. Treasure Planet was crap, Ice Age wasn't strong enough.. Lilo and Stitch has a chance.. but thats it..
