Daredevil was a better movie than Spiderman

This will be spoiler-free, because I want all of you to see it. Some critics (like Ebert) have gotten it, but others, including the normally infallible Elvis Mitchell, haven't. But if you're the type who tends to hate things when they get overhyped, don't read on. I want you all to like this movie.

This is a perfect comic-book movie.

There were a few changes to facts from the comics. Deal with it. Every one of the changes made for a tighter, more cohesive movie, and it's not like Daredevil hasn't had some retconning (remember Miller's Man Without Fear series a few years back?). The key thing is, they GOT the characters. John Favreau's Foggy is a bit too much on the goofy side, but Electra is convincing, and Affleck as Murdock is the most surprisingly successful casting job since Keaton as Bruce Wayne.

And the villains.

Holy shit. Michael Clarke Duncan is the Kingpin. He's perfect, capturing Wilson Fisk to a tee. And Colin Farrell makes Bullseye the most enjoyable on-screen villain since Jack as the Joker. He's got all the skills of the comic-book villain (and he brings out so many of the trademark move -- the paperclip, the playing card, the peanut), but he adds layers of personality onto his role. He's the only character in the movie given license to chew scenery, and he does so with relish.

Every touch in the movie is spot-on. From the origin (with David Keith as Jack Murdoch), to Urich (played nicely by Joey Pants), to the wire-fu fight scenes, to the hint of Karen Page and Glorianna (renamed "Heather" or somesuch), to an appearance by the classic "Marvel Death" (where a character is stabbed all the way through, but the blade somehow doesn't penetrate the back of the shirt). Really. Everything was spot-on.

Lots of cameos (including Sarah Michelle Gellar!), lots of in-jokes, but never overwhelming the story. See this. This is up there with Spidey and Donner's Superman as super-hero movies go.
