Father/Daughter dance report and more
Feb. 16th, 2003 01:48 pmSo, last night was the second annual Girl Scout Father/Daughter Dance. although open to older girls, most of the girls there were pretty much Brownies (with a few Juniors thrown in). That meant that there wasn't much dancing. Basically, most of the girls played games of tag and hide and seek, while about twenty of them were actually dancing at any given moment, usually at the insistence of the fathers. I managed to get Elayna to dance for about five songs, which was about par for the night.
Scariest moment: When the DJ played, "Oops I Did it Again," hearing about eighty 6-10 year-olds shouting, "I'm not that innocent." This was followed by eighty adult males wanting to shout, "Jesus fucking christ, you are so that innocent!" We all managed to repress it, although I think a few blood vessels popped.
Coolest moments: Seeing almost as many girls get excited when they played Pink, and "Love Shack."
Alas, the two other girl scouts from Elayna's karate class weren't there. And their fathers are the only two I actually know. So it wasn't exactly overwhelmingly social for me, but it was fun to dance with Elayna, and fun to watch her have fun.
Afterwards, we went home, to find that the dinner party had gotten a tad delayed, so I was still able to try Bheansidhe's wonderful pho, as well as meet the really nifty Kazu, who was up here for an interview with Emory's MD/PhD program (wish him all the luck -- we'd love to have him in Atlanta!). Vidicon was there, of course, and
blueingenue stopped by, and we hung out, ate (I foisted another key lime pie on them, to follow up the pho), and chatted until hella late. My exhaustion finally caught up to me then, and I ended up sleeping until 11.
And we just now had Elayna watch her first Iron Chef (Battle Banana). She loves it! :-)
