Okay, a slight exaggeration. Maybe.

The story:

As some of you know, I write for Bookslut. It's a fun site to be affiliated with, as you can probably imagine from the name.

Well, on Friday, my editor sent a note out to everyone letting us know that the site was in financial trouble, due to a host who hit them with some surprise "fees."

She quickly set up a Cafe Press store and an Amazon tips program to try to raise money. By Friday night, they were actually 80% of the way to making the money they needed.

I'd been planning on pimping the request today (since LJ tends to get fewer readers on the weekend). But Neil Gaiman, of all folks, pimped Bookslut yesterday in his blog. And it was clear that he really was a fan of the site (which isn't to take any personal credit -- my column's only been around for a month, and Jessa's blog is the real reason to hit the site). And within twelve hours, we'd gotten our $600 (including cash from Neil himself).

Neil just rocks.
