Whoo-hoo!! I can't wait...it will be mine as well...can we say preorder???
BTW...did you get your B5 DVDs yet? You must watch the Claudia, Jerry, & Bruce commentary on the 3rd episode. It's just like going to a 'con panel...only without the fuck count. ;-)
Don't get me wrong, I'm dancing in the aisles that we'll finally get these in nice high-def transfers in anamorphic widescreen, but.....
We've been waiting so damn long for these, and this is what we get? No DTS sound? No audio commentaries at all? I agree with the guys over at The Digital Bits (http://www.thedigitalbits.com/): EACH of these movies deserves the two-disc treatment. One disc of extras for all three? *sigh*
Oh well. Like I said, I'm really happy that these're finally going to be released. I just wish they had put a bit more into them.
I figure I'll wait to see what's on them when more details are announced. There should be at least four hours of extras (given the claim of ten hours of material), and commentaries aren't necessarily what I need (Ford is a bore, Spielberg tends to ramble, and the last thing I want to hear is Lucas whining about how he wanted to fuck with everything but Steven wouldn't let him). Yeah, they do deserve the two-disc treatment (and why even bother with fullscreen as an option -- fullscreen folks don't deserve Indy), but digitally remastered with no extras would still have made me happy.
Digitally remastered with no extras would have made me happy a couple years ago. But after getting special editions like the two Star Wars DVDs that are out, the Lord of the Rings films, Terminator 2's Ultimate Edition, the Toy Story Ultimate Toy Box, and so on, I've gotten a bit spoiled. :)
As it is, I'm delighted that the films are finally coming out. Just wish they had taken perhaps a little bit longer to put stuff together. I guess I do need to wait and see what kind of extras appear on the fourth disc before I make final judgments.
Don't be surprised if they are re-released as "super extra special editions" or whatever once the 4th movie is finally ready for DVD in 2005 sometime. This may just be the "okay, they're released already, shut up and buy it!" DVD set.
Even without a ton of extras (although, obviously, final details haven't been announced), this is still ultra-cheap for this set. You'd figure they could easily get away with charging $20-$25 *per movie* if they were released separately.
Alas, no. It's the same crap that was pulled with Back to the Future. If given a choice, I'd buy the box set of Indy anyway, but it would be nice to give folks a choice.
