So, after two weeks of watching the new animation block on TNN, I am surprised by two things:

1. Stripperella is far and away the best of the new shows.

and

2. Ren and Stimpy is far and away the worst.

Really. Jon K has completely lost it, from what I can see. The post-Jon K eps of the old show were leagues better than this crap -- it looks like Nik actually knew what they were doing. I'm just amazingly underwhelmed.

And Stripperella is nicely self-aware, not even attempting to take itself seriously. And that's a good thing. It's got fun villains and nifty dialogue so far, and if it's not quite a top-notch show, it's still worth catching (though tivo folks should set their pass to record five minutes longer, since TNN, being an MTV network, has no fucking clue how to make their shows start or end on time).

Gary the Rat, the other show, is cute, and has made me laugh out loud more than a few times. It's also sticking around on my Tivo, although it's a lot closer to the bubble than Stripperella is.

oh lord, these are john kricfalusi headed?

the ones after him were pretty bad, i was assuming that these were bad for the same reason.

not that i've seen it. but i've heard. i'll just stick to my trusty video tape.

Yeah, the one ep I saw of Ren & Stimpy (involving a psychatrist) seemed like the cartoons they show in hell. It had all the light touch of a 3 car pile up and the humor of cyst. I wasn't a big fan to start, but this pretty much made me lose hope.

Stripperella was delightfully shameless.

No opinions on Gary the Rat. I was at a get-together when I saw the ep and was talking, so didn't get to hear most of the jokes. Looked neat though.

Peace.

I love Striperella! I'm glad that I'm not the only one! Missed the second episode last week, but I caught the first one. Pam Anderson might just surprise everyone and stick around well beyond her original 15 minutes of fame.

The re-dub of "Takeshi's Castle"--anyone catch this? Evn my 10-year-old was laughing helplessly.

So did they decide if they were Spike TV yet or not? When does the animation block come on?

VIP was great because it didn't take itself too seriously. I think that Pam learned a lot of lessons from Barb Wire (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0115624), while so many other actors keep trying to figure out over and over again. More power to her!
