I watched the first episode of the show for the third time yesterday, and I've enjoyed it more with each viewing. As with the Justice League show or X-Men: Evolution, it's not a faithful adaptation of the original work, but it's got some wonderful nods to the original, and it's a nice anime twist on the theme (and make no mistake: this is an anime in the stylistic sense, regardless of country of origin). The voice acting on the show is simply superb: Tara Strong is a wonderful Raven, Ron Perlman has Deathstroke down, and the rest of the cast does a great job as well (and über-Voice Director Andrea Romano even acts in a minor part. The second episode will have Darkfire, which means that two of the four big Titans villains will have appeared (and with Trigon due later this season, that only leaves Brother Blood, who is probably a little too adult to appear on this show).

Puffy AmiYumi are SO cute! I saw the girls interviewed on Much Music by Nardwar about 6 months ago.. They are adorable.. and have that semi grasp of english that makes them even cutes

It just bugs me that the producer has said we'll never see Batman or the other Leaguers on the show. *pout*

I'm still holding out hope. Given the imminent addition of Static to the comic book version of the Titans (as well as the Static Shock guest appearances by Bats, Supes, and (coming soon) GL), and given the connection they've been trying to make between the comic and the show, I'm hoping for some sort of massive DC Cartoon synergy. They've already started work on season 2, and I know that Speedy is due to appear at some point. Maybe once the show has established their identity, season 3 can expand into the other areas.

Oddly enough, I strongly suspect you and I watched it at exactly the same time last night.

And I would have thought Trigon was too adult, also. I wonder how they're going to kid-ify him?

I'm curious about Trigon, too. But he's not as inherently adult as Brother Blood. The concept -- evil sorcerer father -- doesn't require the same level of nastiness, and also probably won't offend as many advertisers.

I love PuffyAmiYumi and have been into them for years, but the Teen Titans soundtrack is one their worst songs ever. I am shocked that their regular American producer Andy Sturmer had a hand in it. The girls and their song-wfriting team can do sooo much better than that thing which sounds more like a 1960-1970's Cartoon theme (remember both Hulk Themes? Or the Spiderman and The Amazing Friends theme?) than a Manga-theme. Even Pokemon songs are better tahn the Titans GO song.

I was also pretty upset that the cartoon was sooooo anime. I had no clue that'd it be such an anime. It surpirsed especially with the fact that Murakami and Geda, two of the main directors on Batman and Justice League were the guys behind this. I haven't completely gained a distaste for it. I think my partial distaste was more based on shock value. I haven't seen the Deathstroke episode yet, so maybe now that I know I'm watching Teen Titans Manga I can enjoy it more.

I'd known about the anime nature of it, so I wasn't shocked. I've seen mixed reviews around the net.

Honestly, so many anime have horrible music (Chobits, the annoying Fly Me to the Moon covers at the end of each Evangelion, etc), that a quick, catchy tune like this one is fine with me. Especially since it's short (I hate the three-minute openings).

I think the theme fits the style of the show. (I had the pleasure of watching the show via the internet -- though there's no pleasure in the downloads). It kinda evokes the the 60s Batman theme, which was a show not given into its seriousness.

Yup -- for some reason, they decided to spend a few episodes alternating the theme between English and Japanese, one language each episode. I've got no idea if the Japanese lyrics translate the same way.

Cartoon Network Renditions of DC Teams

The biggest question that I have about Cartoon Network and shows like Teen Titans and Justice League is about Justice League.

The only human GL seen on the show is John Stewart. What about Hal Jordan or Guy Gardner? After all, they both had appearances in the "Green Loontern" episode of Duck Dodgers.

On the topic of the Teen Titans theme, I find it very catchy.

Sorry for the huge delay in responding -- I only just caught this comment!

I'm pretty sure that the Duck Dodgers was non-cannon, since we saw different versions of Kilowog and Katma on each show. I think they're sticking with just John in this universe. There are lots of canonical changes that've been made (Star Safire as a British thief comes to mind), and John's more interesting here's than he's ever been in the comics.

The GL Kiki was a filler strip that Pete did one day when he fell behind. Can't remember when, but it's at least seven or eight months back.
