Chris Claremont's Gen13 is ending, proving, once again, that if it doesn't have an "X" in it, he shouldn't write it (actually, given his recent X-books, this really proves that he shouldn't write, period). Adam Warren's run on the book was the best thing to happen to the series, and canceling it for the crap that Claremont wrote was a huge creative mistake.

And on that note, our monthly Westfield order, with commentary:

Cartoon Cartoons 22
(for Miss Kid, of course)

Cinnamon: El Ciclo 2

Jen Van Meter, writing a western. I'm stoked.

Fallen Angel 3
Formerly Known as the Justice League 3

HAving now read the first issue of these two books, I'm even more excited than ever.

H-E-R-O 8
JSA 52
JSA: All-Stars 5

I'll br dropping JSA in a few issues, when Johns foists a money-grubbing crossover on us, but until then, I love this book.

Outsiders 4
Powerpuff Girls 42
Powerpuff Girls Vol. 1: Titans of Townsville
Powerpuff Girls Vol. 2: Go, Girls, Go (tpb)

Yes, Elayna's getting more graphic novels! Woohoo!

Teen Titans 3

The first issue of this was great, until they fucked with Superboy's origin yet again. But there's still lots of potential.

Fables 17
Fables: Last Castle

Now with an Eisner-award winning writer!

Arrowsmith 3

Busiek, Pacheco, and steampunk. A good thing.

Global Frequency 12
Red 3

After this month, my Warren Ellis fix will be harder to come by, alas.

Amazing Spider-Man 58

JMS is continuing to let talent-free guest sycophant Fiona Avery write on this book. I may have to drop it if it doesn't stop.

Captain Marvel 14
Elektra 27
Fantastic Four 504
Hulk: Nightmerica 4
JLA / Avengers 1

Finally!

Kingpin 4
Marvel 1602 2
New Mutants 5
Runaways 6
Spectacular Spider-Man 4
Ramos's art on the first issue of this series was the worst he's ever turned in. Paul Jenkins is the reason I'm on this book.

Ultimate Six 1
Ultimate Six 2
Ultimate Spider-Man 46
Ultimate X-Men 37
Wolverine 5
Alias 26

Yes, five out of six random Marvel books are written by Brian Michael Bendis. :-)

Born 4
Crossovers 9
Misplaced 3
Powers 35
PvP 4
Strangers in Paradise Vol. III 61
Girl Genius 10
Gloom Cookie 17
Soulsearchers 62
Nodwick 23
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Animated 4

This last, surprisingly, has contained some of Peter David's best (and mature) storytelling. The origin of April issue in #2 was nearly perfect.

Thieves & Kings 43
Love Fights 4
Scooter Girl 4
Too Much Hopeless Savages 3
Akiko 51
Wizard (Perez Avengers / JLA cover) 144
Small Favors 8
X-Statix Set (#13 & 14)
Captain America Set (#17 & 18)

Yeah, I know the Cap has sucked ass ever since Waid left in the mid-90s. But this is Dave Gibbons writing a pair, and he's one of the most underrated writers around (if you ignore The Dome)

Daredevil Set (#51 & 52)
Exiles Set (#33 & 34)

Judd's back! Chuck Austen did his best to fuck up the title, but now it'll be readable again.

Incredible Hulk Set (#60 & 61)

How are you liking Scooter Girl? I loves me my Chynna, as the kidz say these days, but I'm really underwhelmed by this one.

I just plunked $35 at Wuxtry myself. I keep dropping titles but I still think a crack habit would be cheaper.

dude,
My friend just gave a GN and some issues of "Y". Have you read it? (I know, liely you have, but I had to ask). It's really cool.

It might be "Y, the last man on earth"

If I missed it on the list, ignore me!

Chris Claremont wrote a couple of novels, one of which was a credible shot at cyberpunk. Not ground breaking or anything, but it put all the elements together in a way that any testosterone laden fanboy could appreciate. But I can't recall the name, that's never a good sign. I keep confusing his stuff with Walter Jon Williams, and am thus disappointed. He also had some wierd space opera first contact book that just tried too hard.
