Grr.

I hate it when my Tivo fucks up and doesn't switch channels properly. It was supposed to catch Maniac Cop 3: Badge of Silence off of HBO, but instead ended up with the syndicated Lost World tv show (although I was pleasantly surprised to see the woman who played Penelope on Xena on that show). Grr. I want my cheesy movies! At least it recorded Mimic 2 properly.

In other horror-related news, I should be dead soon. Because I heard a noise, investigated it, and uttered the phrase, "It's just the cat."

I just watched Mimic 2.... I hope you have better impressions than I did.

I had the same experience...

Last week. Suffering from yet another night of insomnia, at around 1 am I thought "I'm finally tired. I'm going to bed." Upon which something fell over in the storage room right behind my computer room. I said, "What is that damn cat up to now?"
Then, I remembered.
I don't have a cat.

Last night my cats ran into the bedroom and ran out really fast with their tails fluffed up and looking scared. So what did I do? I went in the dark room to investigate. Smart!

I would be more concerned for you, my friend, if you had just had sex and then heard something and went to investigate. Cause it's always the non-virgins who get it in the end.
Um. No pun intended.

Just goes to show you that no matter how many horror movies you watch, you never learn.

At least I'd know it's never just the cat, since Lance is the original fraidy-cat.

I was talking to someone at work ([livejournal.com profile] iveyb) the other day. He told me that Tivo came out with a recent patch to specifically address incompatibilities with the Motorola/Comcast deployment and that direct serial connection is now supported, ending the channel-changing woes. No more IR poo. Have not verified any of this, but that's what he told me.

This post here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/muppet954/21445.html?mode=reply) talks about that...

You're fine though 'cuz if you can get "ah, it was just the cat" and then go "one, two, three" to yourself, everything's fine. 'Cuz in the movies it's always "ah it was just the catGYAAAAAAAACCCKKKK!!!!" chomp chomp chomp

Heh.. I had the same channel-switching issue with my old Tivo, mostly because the montly housecleaners would try to brush the dust off of the cable box and move the little IR emitter.

But now I have a DirecTivo and the problem is solved. I'm happy now!

Ah, Maniac Cop. I actually met Robert Z'Dar (http://us.imdb.com/Name?Z%27Dar,%20Robert) once. He was a bouncer at an LA club, The Joint. How the mighty fall...

You should be all right until the black guy gets it. The kind of horror film that would get you for "It's just the cat" hast to kill the black guy first. It's a tradition.

Interestingly, for me it has always been the cat making the random strange noise, but then my cat makes a point of getting into things that normal cats can't be bothered to get in to.

Also, since I found you randomly, I have to say that anybody who likes Steven Brust, Christopher Moore, Terry Pratchett, and Transmetropolitan while also claiming to be a skeptic is almost certainly a person worth knowing. Therefore I am adding you as a friend, because I like and am all of those things.

And lastly, get the cable that connects your TiVo to your cable/satellite box directly. It looks a lot like a phone cord, although I don't think the wiring is the same. Anyway, you never have to worry about the infrared sensor thingie screwing up the channel changing ever again. It was totally, one hundred percent worth the 10 bucks plus 5 bucks shipping or whatever it cost.

I've caught myself thinking that phrase a lot in the last week or so, although I've never actually said the words. As much as I like cats, I've never actually lived with one before. Now I live with two. And I finally understand why "It's just the cat" is such a cliche. Because they do make an awful lot of strange noises at night :)
