The August issue of Bookslut is up, and with it are two appearances by yours truly!

First, you can find my review of Terry Pratchett's The Wee Free Men over here.

Then, you can read my monthly column, Fear Factor, over here. This month, I bitch about the HWA (Horror Writers Association) being a bunch of cynical wankers.

There were a few minor edits in the two that have me a bit grumbly (including one that affects readability, imho), but I'm writing that off to the editor being sick when she was putting the issue together.

"Wee Free Men" is being marketed as a kids' book in the States? How odd... it's just part of the normal range over here, and seemed to fit in fine.

Fair point. I've only seen it on the adult shelves - but then, I didn't pay a huge amount of attention, once I'd found a cheap copy.

My copy says "Imprint of Random House Children's Books", so young audience appears to be the UK publisher's opinion, as well. I feel the book stands strong in the Discworld line. Pratchett is gaining real depths since the early works.

Good review. One minor point: the Mac Nac Feegle also appear in Carpe Jugularum--which is probably more of a horror novel than the Lovely Bones. :)
