Yeah, woke up at my normal time. Showered, hit email briefly, and then saw Elayna wake up at 6 on her own (even though she'd never do so on a weekday). Weird kid. And since the cartoons she watches are on Tivo, it's not like she needs to wake up early for certain shows or anything (aside to [livejournal.com profile] shadesong: make sure she's not watching any toons at 10:30 or 11:30, as Tivo is set to record stuff then).

Walked into work. I keep forgetting how horrible the last 100 yards of Houston Mill is. It's at about a 45 degree angle, and after walking the first mile of the road with no sweat, that last section left me drenched.

Hit CVS for spray deodorant. Hit Caribou for coffee. Needed coffee. Asked which travel mug held the most coffee, and bought that one (I'll be refilling it at least once today).

And now I'm at the office. And in half an hour, I'll be upstairs at the breakfast, and then I'll be in the dorms, stuck on a borrowed fucking XP laptop because of one stupid proprietary app.

Need more caffeine.

Yeah, and there are virtual PCs on linux that will run Windows. The only problem is for the cost you can almost buy a new low-end laptop as it is, and you need a decent computer to run both OSes at the same time (also with some VMs, you need a copy of the OS as well as the VM).

But it is a viable solution, if not a financially available one to everyone. :)

yendi already runs Macintosh, and VPC has been made into an upgrade to Office X that's quite affordable. And it runs reasonably well on most of the recent Macs. When the G5s get here it'll probably run about the same as a 1GHz Intel box.

I figured he did, not many people who use Windows would seem so upset about having to use Windows. ;)

Quite affordable for one isn't always affordable for another, though. ;)

My wife runs Macs (she has a G4 and an iBook) and I run linux, we only have a couple computers with windows on it, her old laptop and my old computer that is rarely used (extremely rarely).

:)

I just wish they'd get WINE up to my standards... ;)

That'd be great. Wot about Lindows? Not yet an option?

Not an option for me, as I'm already running linux the way I want, and doing Lindows would mean switching to a different version of Linux and reinstalling everything. Although from what I remember, Lindows uses a version of WINE.

I might just eventually have to get WineX since it's overall design is focused on games and not trying to get every application to work, and I really only want WINE to work for gaming anyway (why else? Not like I want to use MS Office or MS Outlook...).

Of course, my other option is to buy a newer faster box again and make this one a win98 gaming machine. ;)
