Gray morning
Sep. 12th, 2003 08:36 amWow. Lots of death in the news today. Johnny Cash, one of my idols, is gone (and in the same year as June Carter Cash). The Man in Black is one of the reasons that, when people talk about country music sucking, I feel obliged to correct them. He was one of the music greats. And even if he'd lived another thirty years, he'd have died too soon.
And that was followed up by the news that John Ritter died. Cash, I wasn't surprised by. But Ritter just took me out of the blue. I won't pretend to have been a fan of his shows (which I almost universally hated, Hooperman being the exception), but he always seemed so much better than the parts he played. And he was great in so many of his guest spots and tv movies (Buffy and It come to mind).
And this is shortly after Charles Bronson, as well as Leni Riefenstahl, who won't be mourned in the slightest, but who was nevertheless a genius in her field. Looks like a bad week to be famous.
