Scary Movie 3

Just saw a sneak preview of Scary Movie 3, with one_woman_army and mermaidblue (yes, I was the short schlubby guy at a premiere with two tall hot blondes -- I'm so fucking Hollywood!). It was way better than the first two, but not up there with Airplane! or The Naked Gun Movies (although it shared director David Zucker with those two). It pretty much had Signs and The Ring as the main targets, with 8 Mile also getting some serious attention. Of course, just about every other genre movie of the last few years was represented. Worth a viewing, although probably not at full price. And if you never saw Airplane!, you're going to miss one of the best jokes in the film.

And can I take a minute to say how incredibly under-appreciated Anna Feris is? Sure, she's just plain gorgeous, but so is half of Hollywood. But she has a truly amazing ability at mimicry. There were moments in this flick where she practically becomes Naomi Watts or Brittany Murphy. Combine that with an amazing sense of comic timing, and I honestly don't know why she's not a star.

So is it less gross than the first two? The trailers lead me to believe that is the case, and if it is, I want to see it. If not, then ennnh. Shit/fart/dick/cum jokes just aren't funny anymore, not in the frequency and concentration they come in these days.

There are a few lowbrow moments, but A) they're original (unlike SM2, which had nothing new), and B) they're fewer and further between. And the three that I remember (two piss, one fart) are all mostly funny, or at least cute enough to tolerate.

You seem to see a lot of films well before they come out. Do you have a local theater that does a lot of sneaks, or are you on some kind of advance screening mailing list, or what?

The latter, mostly. I get 'em from CHUD.com, which does a lot of screenings in Atlanta (although you have to ask for each one), and from ew.com/freescreening. I also snag a few from other sources (Creative Loafing and other local freebies, the occasional pass at a record store, etc.).

It's been a while since Airplane! though.. not that I'm going to see SM3 anytime soon.

I'm sure Feris will start to rise soon. She is pretty good.

It amazes me that Chris Elliot finds work with the crappy parts he gets...

i'm glad it's better than the first two. i saw the first one (but not the second one, thank god), and the whole penis-in-the-ear thing was totally disqusting. but i'm looking forward to seeing this one, since you know, same guy as Airplane! and with The Ring references (even though i've never seen the english version completely through. only the japanese version, Ringu, and i've watched it at least twice. much better than the english version, or so i've heard)
