So, I jokingly show my boss a conference invite for a international conference on virtual communities in Lisbon next year. I show it primarily to mention the fact that there's a journal associated with this group, and that we should subscribe. He tells me to find out how much airfare is.

Yeep!

Oh, go for it. I've been wanting to get down to Spain and Portugal for a while -- one of these days. I think you should do it. :)

Damn, Lisbon is just not within drop-over-for-tea distance. You need to do a Lipkin World Tour, or something.

Why would you have to go to Lisbon?

It is about virtual communities, so it should be all on line.

You just want to go bask in the sun. Bah, a good Morlock would just stay in his Unix Cave.

(Hah, Morlock is not in the LJ dictionary, by Moloch is. I wonder if the programmer was a Buffy the Vampire fan?)

It's actually not coded by LJ, it's an outside source program. I don't remember what program, though, offhand.

Interesting.

Hey, where can I get mechanical hand like yours that responds to voice commands when you are done typing?

Yeah, I figured it was bad syntax on my part as I walked out the door (late) to class.

Hand: mouse over and hit post. Wait, picture first, then post.

Good hand.

It struck me that your sentence could be parsed like this.

"I don't remember what program, though. Off hand."

Thus my intereset in a cybernetic hand, that follows voice commands.

ah. Yeah, it was tough to get. Easier to use the original, since it follows mental commands. Most of the time, anyway. This is why I shouldn't do LJ when I first wake up. :)

Ease of use is not always a geek requirement.

See Rube Goldberg, RPGs, nuclear physics and any giant ball of twine.

True, ease of use has never been a requirement for me (why I use linux, although it's considered the easiest linux to use...).

Oh, the hand off went badly.

Wait, that's how we got into this tangle in the first place.

Off, handjokes.

Point taken on the definition snipe.

Amusing that the coder thought it would come up in a standard paragraph and need to be recognized though.

And I see you glossed over the whole going to Lisbon thing.

You will never keep your protective moss layer if you keep going outside. You will get cathode ray burns(idea stolen from [livejournal.com profile] theferrett) from the comp monitor without it.

I've been there. Big deal. Same old Midwestern hicks and cornfields.

Ohhhhh, Lisbon Portugal?

I thought you meant Lisbon, Iowa. ;)

I'll be wanting a coffee mug. I'll reimburse you for postage from Etlanna.
