So, I've been trying to finish my hella late Bookslut column (yay for forgiving editors!). And I foolishly decided to write about Stephen King. My argument is essentially, "Yeah, he sucks ass now, but he didn't twenty years ago, and horror would be worse off without him." Which is something easy enough to write in a paragraph, or a book, but not in a fucking column. Anyway, attempting to get this written (and also to get "work" done) will be why I'm not on LJ much today.

You should write about his two distinct fanbases: the millions of popcorn readers, and the hardcore fans who buy the collectors' editions, became writers themselves because of him, and etc. The latter folks are often abuse survivors, working-class people, etc.

Spare a mention, if you can, for his Danse Macabre. Really good critical commentaries on horror films have always been a rare breed, but his was very well-timed and very well-argued.
