This hits me really hard. After he retired, he was a sportscaster for Channel 6, the ABC affiliate in Philly. He was so witty and personable. And you could tell he loved his job.

It's always the great ones that leave us early. :(

*nod* Exactly -- he had character, not this post-Dave Kingman attitude that every other player seems to bring to the park.

Yeah, he's occasionally spend a few innings in the booth when the Mets were in Philly, and his enthusiasm was contagious. He just loved the game.

This was like another small piece of childhood fading away...I remember watching that game with such excitment and then him throwing that last pitch .....Such a sad baseball day!
