Could someone please tell me why the fuck TNT feels the need to remake <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0790742829/yendisjournal-20">Salem's Lot</a>, which Tobe Hooper did a fucking amazing job on the first time? Haven't they learned anything from the <a href="href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000077VRT/yendisjournal-20">Wings version</a> of <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005ATQJ/yendisjournal-20">The Shining</a>? Good King plots don't always translate into good movies.

Oh, and it's starring Rob Lowe. Who has done one really good film in the last ten years (the incredibly under-appreciated <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000056OX4/yendisjournal-20">The Specials</a>, which everyone on the planet must watch). Apparently because he did such a good job the last time he was in a King film (maybe they're forgetting that he played a deaf-mute in that one?).

My friend and I were talking abotu this yesterday; the thing about it is that the cast is so... unopriginal. My friend knew exactly which role James Cromwell was playing befoire she looked. Then you have Rutger Hauer and Donald Sutherland. This is no big surprise.

Yeah. This sounds like a yawn.

Dude... thank you. The Specials is completely my thing. I'm a huge fan of the Tick, both live action and the animated version. Mystery Men, if it involves superhero humor I am all about it! I am totally going to see this.

Maybe it was the fact I was watching it at midnight after a full day at the Atlanta ComiCon, but The Specials just didn't do it for me. Even the producers, the guys who made Free Enterprise (an excellent film) thought it was kinda crappy. It had it's moments, it just never carried through for me.

the only good thing i can see coming of this is Lisa Gerrard (http://www.lisagerrard.com/) composing the score, which probably won't be released separately since it's a TV thing. wait, does that turn it back into a bad thing?

AHH!!! What movie did he play the deaf-mute in?! I watched that movie on TV one time and loved it and DAMN if I can't remember the title. I will love you forever and always give you rides to the airport if you tell me. ::bites her fingernails in anticipation::

THANK YOU! I don't know why I haven't ever used IMDB to find it. I didn't even know it was a Stephen King movie though.

Like the TNT remake of Goodbye Girl, starring.... no one anybody's ever heard of? Why bother?

To have an excuse to push a Hootie and the Blowfish cover of the title song, that's why.

You've never heard of Jeff Daniels? And Patricia Heaton? Ok, Patricia I can understand, since she's been a TV actress on one hit show. But Jeff Daniels?!

Also, Alan Cumming is in it. Please tell me you've heard of him. He's fabulous.

I think my head just exploded.

Okay, Jeff Daniels yes and Alan Cumming definitely (Nightcrawler!! heh). But still, did this NEED to be remade?

Ok, I think I was going to have an aneurysm if you hadn't heard of those two.

I'm not saying it needed to me remade, just your comment about no one anyone's ever heard of being in it... that's what got me. :)

Oh yes, let me also point out that The Pepsi Girl, AKA Hallie Kate Eisenberg is in it. People has said she's like a mini-me. Not really pertinent information, but still. :)

I wasn't saying it was going to be good. I just thought [livejournal.com profile] xforge hadn't heard of Jeff Daniels or Alan Cumming and my head was going to explode. :)

Oh my god! Someone else who's actually seen The Specials!

I found it on tv by accident recently and just about died laughing.

Sadly there was probably stuff cut out. It was just on some random station, not HBO.

bwahahahaha!

Actually, I thought parts of the remake of The Shining were cool. Mostly the effects. of course, I also have a severe dislike of Jack Nicholson* so any casting** would be an improvement over him.

* I know he's A Great Actor (tm) he just bugs me.

**Well, not any casting. I can think of quite a few worse.

I hate this new trend of remaking all the best films of the late 60's & 70's. Does anyone in Hollywood have an original thought left?

The In-laws & The Goodbye Girl - both in my top 20 list have both been hit.

I LOVED Salem's Lot. If they start in on the Hal Ashby (http://imdb.com/name/nm0000797/) stuff, someone will have to die...

I think I need to head over to Movies Worth Seeing TODAY, I'm thinking two from my med list. Perhaps Klute (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067309/), and Being There (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078841/)...yes, that will help =)

I'm still puzzling over The Goodbye Girl myself. What, Richard Dreyfuss isn't good enough for them anymore? (Goddess knows his beard looked better than Daniels's.)

I must dissent - I thought the Tobe Hooper Salem's Lot sucked. Not that this means the remake will suck less, sadly.

I'd like to see a version where it's not *all* about the vampires, but involves the town and the house and the whole "some places attract bad things" idea. But then, that's just me.

Are you out of your mind? The first 'Salem's Lot has MAJOR continuity problems... namely some nut coming into town and for no reason (if you haven't read the book) declaring that everyone is a vampire...
