Lea Salonga of Miss Saigon? I may have been aware she did Disney voices, but stage geek that I am, she will always be "Lea Salonga of Miss Saigon." Even when she was on another show on Broadway a year or so ago.
At least Jodi Benson is extremely proud that she's Ariel. She's made her career over the fact that she is Disney's The Little Mermaid. Her Broadway career was good, but nothing to write home about. She is the voice of Ariel in ALL her appearances.
Lea broke into Broadway on Les Miserables though before smashing in on Miss Saigon. She's made a career out of being a Disney singing voice as well though.
So it's not really wrong. These ladies made the personal decision to devote the rest of the careers to this. Lea is returned to doing La for Mulan II even. Although she is in a soap opera right now, supposedly. I wouldn't know. That's what websites say though
Oh totally, but Broadway musical singers rarely ever get it. I think Ben Vereen is probably more famous for Zoobilee Zoo than Pippin even.
Kristin Chenoweth has no fame yet, but god damn she deserves it.
I'm sure BD Wong's 2 year run on M. Butterfly isn't widely known either... he's just that priest on OZ to people... or not even that... he's probably just that guy in Matrix 2.
Thankee... I love the film, so when I found that image... I was just like YES! Now all I need is a won or free copy of the recent special edition DVD or the $$ to buy it.
I love the film in this icon as well, even though the two films have nothing to do with each other.
I was just watching the Little Mermaid this afternoon with my mom and admiring Jodi Benson's work. I haven't watched that movie in years.
And I love Lea Salonga to pieces. I got excited one time because she was appearing on Sesame Street and I just had to watch it, heh. I only found out she did Disney voices after having heard her Broadway work, but in re-watching Aladdin, I knew right away it was her.

Jodi is Ariel. Lea did the singing (but not the speaking) roles for Jasmine and Mulan.
Both have also kicked major ass on Broadway.
