vidicon, as always, hits any number of nails on the head in this post. "Activist" court my ass. Bush could care less if any court is activist or not (hell, he's lucky this week's copy of "The Weekly Reader" defines it for him); he just wants a court that AGREES with him. In other words, one that's activist only when it's actively pushing his agenda (which, to be fair, isn't much different from what I want, although my agenda doesn't involve hatred and lies to such a great extent).

Dennis Hastert, the unspeakably vile being who was too horrible for even Lovecraft to imagine, is currently committing a public act of extortion, offering the tobacco growers of the state of Kentucky a bill if and only if they help elect his pet candidate. Give the evil beast credit -- he may lack ethics, a soul, and anything resembling human emotion, but he sure as hell has balls.

And just because the Republicans in the House practice extortion, let's not rule out the possibility that they also play on the bribery side of things. The situation with Nick Smith and his son all but reeks of it (although only the extortion has really been confirmed -- the bribery is still being debated). My favorite part of this article is the comment that someone asked Hastert to investigate. That's like asking Michael Jackson to take care of your kids.

And the funniest thing about the Medicare bill ads that are planned by the same company that's also working for the Bush reelection campaign (or no sir, these aren't in any way campaign ads, really!)? It's not the fact that the folks behind the bill all knew that the cost would be $134 Billion more than planned. It's the fact that CBS, who refused the MoveOn anti-Bush ad during the JanetBowl on the grounds that they don't run "issue" ads, is airing this one.

No shit. How about this woman, one of Bush's nominees to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. She's such a far-right wacko even Bush's own White House counsel, who served on the Texas Supreme Court with her, complained about her "judicial activism."
