From the NY Daily News:
As the questions about his service continued at the White House for a second day, Bush spokesman Scott McClellan denounced them as "gutter politics."
Gee, unlike, say, having your strap-on bimbo Anne Coultier attack Max Cleland, or having your boybitch Matt Drudge spreading a rumor about John Kerry and an intern.
Shrub and Co: Don't pretend you're not down there just because you're too stupid to look up at the stars.

Re:
Date: 2004-02-13 08:40 am (UTC)Main point of my difficulty with this article: she thinks Dems are rabid about Bush's service record - I guess she conveniently forgets how Republicans went after Clinton, first for Whitewater, then when they couldn't nail him on that, they went off barking in the direction of his indiscretions with his prick. I mean hello, witch hunt? Sheez.

Date: 2004-02-13 11:19 am (UTC)The Kerry bit got leaked by other Democrats; Republicans are just running the news.
Re:
Date: 2004-02-13 11:25 am (UTC)That said, the first "break" of this story was Drudge, and the very fact that there's any push on this story at all (which, unless it turns out that he either killed the intern or leaked secrets to her, shouldn't affect his candidacy at all) has been from Bush and his cronies.
Re:
Date: 2004-02-13 11:43 am (UTC)Clark was backed by the Clinton's, so I'd actually see them as being more behind it than Bush.
The other news groups in Washington have been working on the story for a while, and it was known in 2000 (it's why Kerry wasn't the VP with Gore, they were trying to stay away from the personal problems that Clinton had espoused). That's from.. forgot his name. He ran Gore's campaign in 2000 and worked with Clark for a while (and is probably where they got the info from), who was later fired from there.
The idea that Drudge is anyone's cronie is funny, though, because he's been blasted by Bush and co. as much as by any Democrat.
Re:
Date: 2004-02-14 04:44 am (UTC)Not so much responding to your comment (since you said it with a wink), but one of the most frustrating things about Bush (and about Clinton's early days, and Reagan) was the "he's too stupid to do X" thing seems to surface amongst the opposition. I've never understood why folks who despise a President do it, as, if anything, it only increases that President's ability to get away with stuff. I honestly don't believe we've had any executives in office who were that clueless this century (and yeah, that includes Coolidge).
As for the Kerry story itself, I hadn't heard about the scandal before (I just assumed that Lieberman was the first of so many horrendous campaign moves by Gore).
And as for Drudge, the only times I recall him getting blasted by Bush were over some leaks that initially seemed pretty pro-Bush, but I don't follow him particularly closely at this stage.
