Had a fun night out attending a performance of MacHomer at the Ferst Center over at GA Tech (Atlanta folks! It's playing tomorrow night). For those who don't click on the link, it's a one-man show in which Macbeth is performed (and condensed and interpreted) by the cast of The Simpsons. There are voices that don't quite click (the kids), but the guy is dead on for most of the major characters. If this show hits your town (the web site mentions Napa Valley and Stuart, Florida). It's short (a little over an hour), but very worthwhile. There are also two bonus musical numbers, and even an Itchy and Scratchy cartoon. A fun evening (I went with
jet_li_wannabe and four folks without LJs).
I sat across the aisle from three Emory English Faculty (Sheila Cavanagh, Harry Rusche, and Bill Dillingham), which was quite a pleasant surprise. I don't think they enjoyed it as much as the rest of us (Sheila offered me a bribe to not mention seeing her there to any English grad students), but it was still nice to see them. Bill, who retired a number of years ago, remembered me quite fondly from when I worked at the Emory Computer Store, which was very flattering, since I don't think I'd seen him since 1996 or so.
Afterwards, we (not counting the faculty) went over to Rusan's, where we bumped into
karlita as she was leaving, and then gorged ourselves silly on sushi and yakatori and fried bananas. Nice way to cap an evening.
