Yeah, I didn't post on my birthday. I had the opportunity to spend most of the day watching DVDs and playing videogames (I adore Airburst, and cannot wait until Airburst Extreme is finally released). So yeah, took a break from LJ.

Didn't do much in the way of actual celebrating, although I'm planning a lunch next week, depending on scheduling.

Did have one of those things happen to me which no one, ever, should have happen on their birthday. Suffice to say, it won't be happening again.

As for the gifts, [livejournal.com profile] shadesong's parents got me three DVDs: Tokyo Drifter, The Thing, and The Third Man. These were all DVDs that were stolen when we were robbed, and all DVDs that I consider essential to any movie colletion.

Shadesong got me Futurama Vol. 2 (with the Lost City of Atlanta episode!), the third collection of Y the Last Man ([livejournal.com profile] glenn5, was this the one you felt there was a plot hole in?), and an IOU on Sethra Lavode, the final book in Brust's Phoenix Guards saga (it was just released, and shipped the day before my birthday)! Yay! Best. Fiancee. Ever.

Then, at the end of the day, the UPS guy showed up with a package from [livejournal.com profile] morenasangre (well, from Amazon, but you know what I mean), containing Season One of Six Feet Under! Yay! This was one of the single best seasons of TV I've ever seen. It's also got the best packaging I've seen on a DVD set in a long time. This gift just rocks.

Finally, [livejournal.com profile] volta arrived, and gave me Futurama Vol. 3 and Genius: The Best of Warren Zevon. Both essential items in my house.

So, yeah, not much celebrating, per se, but a nice day, with some nice additions to the DVD shelf.

(oh, and Mom sent a check, which will go towards some Amazon buying next week).

Tis a shame you had a bad moment in your birthday. Heres hope that the rest of the day, and the weekend brings you much peace and joy instead.

BTW - birthdays are mostly of the suck, in my opinion. I just like to let them pass with a minimum of fanfare (and some booze if available) and enjoy the rest of the year.

As an asside - my daughter asked me what 'was up' yesterday, and among the things I listed I said it was your birthday. She answered 'oh, Elynas Dad'. I started to correct her, with the whole 'well yes, step dad, but when 'song and he get married, he will be her legal dad'(Its that whole must explain how marriage and legality work to my child thing that hung me up). My child, without a pause said 'No, Mom - he is her real dad because he loves her. He is her real dad no matter what, even if they never get married'.

And of course, she is exactly right.

the third collection of Y the Last Man ([livejournal.com profile] glenn5, was this the one you felt there was a plot hole in?)

I don't remember any plot holes, but if that's the one that includes the resolution to the space station storyline, I thought that was a huge copout.

Glad it was good

Yay! Glad your day was mostly-good, and glad the DVDs came in time. I've just started watching that show, and I adore it. I'm just a weird person with dark humor, and that show delights me and cracks me up. Glad you're enjoying it too!

Did it? How so? My impression was the men died of the fire sooner than they could have died of what killed all the other males.

I don't think we're ever going to learn more than we already do. In a later issue a character mentions a book called The Last Man by Mary Shelley, which was about the death of every man on Earth save one.

Another character asks what killed all the men in the novel, and she's told, "It never says, but that wasn't the point..."

A belated happy birthday, and cheers to your lovely stash! I've heard good things about Brust's "series" (this is the one where you can read the books out of order, right?) but have yet to read it.

But the fact that it was a one-time event doesn't mean we'll ever get an explanation.

What I took from the mention of the Shelley novel was, that was Brian Augustyn telling us he'll never explain why all the males died, because that's not his point.

Happy belated birthday to you!

Work's been kicking my butt, and I've had another super-nasty cold, so I totally forgot to send you greetings yesterday. I'm glad you got good birthday swag!

Hugs to you and the ladies.
