I would just like to announce that

I won a game of Puerto Rico last night!

Not that any strategy ever used in the game will ever work again, but I managed to pull out a win over Jerry (and [livejournal.com profile] jet_li_wannabe and Thomas), in spite of his having two of the five big buildings. I pulled it off because I got the storagehouse bonus building, and spent my final build phases getting a couple of extras storehouses. As always, for a game with minimal random factors, I'm amazed at how unpredictable it is.

Haven't been online much, as we've been entertaining our wonderful houseguest, [livejournal.com profile] wispfox. We've introduced her to Monster House (Mad Scientist House! Complete with Electric Chair!), Harvey Birdman, and other fun stuff. We also dragged her to Javamonkey yesterday, because everyone needs to go there (mmmm, baked brie plate). Tonight, she gets to see Boondock Saints.

Last night's Simpsons? Eh. But the opening two minutes? Priceless.

Yay for Harvey Birdman!! :o)

And the Simpsons.. yeah. How many cartoons are going to do that Golden Ticket thing? I love how it just died out and he became judge of a pig contest.

They're really grabbin' at straws.. but I don't care, they're not allowed to stop making episodes, EVER!!

I vary between really good games of Puerto Rico and really bad games. I can generally beat [livejournal.com profile] huskyscotsman in any of the two-player variants, though.

I got introduced to that game by Mr. Cheapass himself, during my last trip to Vegas. It's quite cool. There was much talk about how no randomization at all affects the game play. It seems to be overtaking settlers of catan as the new favorite for that group.

And shepherds we shall be, for thee my Lord for thee, Power hath descended forth from thy hand, that our feet may swiftly carry out thy command, and we shall flow a river forth to thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be. In nomine patris, et filii... [guns cocking] ...et spiritus sancti.

Holy Bats! What a coincidence!

I too, won my first game of Puerto Rico, this weekend. I have never won before because dammit, other people's choices affect you too much.
