A bunch of us, fed up with the lack of coffee at work, went in on a pod-based Melita machine. So I can now shop here.

The holiday delayed the iTunes free song of the week a day, but it was worth the wait. The song (see current music) has a very nice Julianna Hatfield (from her Beautiful Creature or God Bless the Blake Babies) edge to it.

I tend to suck at remembering to post birthday wishes, but happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] olliesmama, who has finally caught up to me, age-wise, and happy belated birthday to [livejournal.com profile] laurel, who gave me my LJ invite code (remember those?) way back when. Happy birthday also to [livejournal.com profile] merovingian and [livejournal.com profile] naughtyangel75.

A reminder: For those who are actually capable of remembering such things (in other words, not me) you can see the birthdays of your LJ friends at this page.

Many folks have posted the link, but http://www.booksforsoldiers.com/ is worth mentioning again. It's not always handled like the old books for soldiers programs were (seeing folks requesting the DVD box set of Season 8 of Friends is almost embarrassing), but it's still a great cause.

Additionally, it's been at least a year since I reminded folks that expired coupons are still usable on military bases for up to six months after the expiration date (and current ones are still useful for them as well). http://ocpnet.org/ maintains a list of bases to which you can send coupons that have expired or which you're not using.

I found an old A.A. Fair novel in the free books stack. That makes me happy (especially since [livejournal.com profile] magenta_girl and I were just discussing classic mysteries this weekend).

Off to catch up on work.

Yup. Got one of those here - bought it for my coworker. They're nifty little things. For Christmas, I think I'm gonna buy her the espresso maker.

We opted for the pod maker because in an open lab with students, we are not allowed to have any open liquid-containing reservoirs. A pot of coffee is an evil thing. But Caridad can't live without caffeine, and I, as her boss, could no longer in good conscience have her drinking instant...

How do you rate the coffee that results from the pod machine (I LOVE that word, "pod") as opposed to a regular coffee maker or espresso machine?

Cool. It sounds like it won't replace our trusty machine, but might be very convenient for camping and travel purposes, also.

this was every bit as good as the Starbucks in the Emory cafeteria

So. Not. An. Endorsement.

Dude: http://www.toddycafe.com/

Seriously, cold process coffee, stupidly easy to make, wonderful flavor, you can do just about *anything* with it. and you can use it with just about *any coffee*
