2004 World Series of Poker thoughts

yendiYou know why I like the Celebrity show? Because, honestly, the players make as many dumb mistakes as the "pros." But we get better banter and, more importantly, better production values. I only watched the Hold 'Em game -- I'm not a fan of Stud (though I do like Omaha, so I expect to catch a full two hours next week).
The only thing I like better about the production (as opposed to the game itself) on ESPN is the posting of odds. Otherwise, annoying hosts, bad mikes and cameras, and only one or two charismatic players. Other than the hand with Chiu and Nguyen (I loved Chiu's fake-out, and Nguyen drama in general), and some of Rice's hands, it was just boring. Vogl may be the world's most boring poker player, even if he won. Rice was fun, although he really stumbled at the end. If you bluff a lot, occasionally you need to back down, otherwise folks will start calling you. Gotta love anyone who was taught by Amarillo Slim, though.
Gotta start taping WPT instead. Much better hosts and production values, and the games are pretty much as good.
