Well, usually, in fact. I mean, one great year every decade or two just keeps hope alive. I know it's not as bad as being a Red Sox fan (trading Nomar? What the fuck?), or a Cubs fan (getting Nomar? What the fuck?). But still.

Trading for Kris Benson and Victor Zembrano is just a bad idea.

Benson is a damned fine pitcher. But he's a free agent, and we just traded one damned underrated everyday player and two prospects for him. If he signs long-term, it's about an even-up trade. If he doesn't, it's one wasted rental. At best, he's the #3 starter for the Mets. More likely, he's the #4. You don't trade Ty Wiggington and two prospects for that.

But that's nothing compared to Zembrano. Zembrano is a fifth starter for anyone. He's never shown himself capable of greatness, even during Tampa Bay's streak earlier this year. And we gave up our best prospect for him.

On the plus side, no more Erickson and Seo in the rotation, but losing Ty is a blow, and it'd take a miracle for this to help us into the postseason.

The overall plan, really. It feels like they got rid of many of the players who got them in first place to begin with. Especially Paul Lo Duca.

*giggle* I'm not a sport's fan. I just like the Cubs because of having lived in Chicago for three years.

I am shocked, shocked that the Mets made a stupid trade!

Well, actually, I am a little surprised, because I think these are Steve Phillips-esque trades.

I saw Ty Wiggington's first Major League at-bat the last time I was in NY. He singled, IIRC.

Someday I'll have to tell you about the dinner where I met both Bobby Valentine and George W. Bush...

Yeah, I thought those Mets trades were a bit of The Odd.

I grew up mostly a Cubs fan (yay WGN) and adopted the Red Sox, so I don't feel like I really lost Nomar, but it's still sad.
